Why is this so difficult for you to grasp? I'll explain it to you one more time so it can sink in.
I am 2.75 inches from 6'9 and 9.25 inches from 5'9. It is much easier to adjust to gaining 2.75 inches than losing 9.25. If you don't understand why I'd rather go from 6'6.25 to 6'9 than 6'6.25 to 5'9, YOU are the one who is not of sound mind.
Oh sorry, do you want me to lie and say that being very tall sucks and I'd rather lose nearly a foot of height than gain a few inches? Sure buddy, whatever makes you feel better about yourself.

I don't value being tall strongly like most men do.

I'd consider someone "giant" at a foot above average, 6'9"+ for men in US/UK and 6'4"+ for women.

Let's discuss a bit female height guys. Do you all and Rob also agree that the ideal or the absolutely perfect height for a woman is 5'7 to 5'7 3/4? The full 5'8 and over looks too tall and masculine, while 5'5 1/2 to 5'6 1/2 looks average/medium and 5'3 1/2 to 5'5 mixed short/average, while 5'3 and under looks like clearly short.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would say that women over 5'9.5 look a bit too tall, and certainly it's getting in to more of a masculine height range.
As a 6'0.75 guy, women start to look short from my perspective at around 5'4 ..although this is of course still the lower end of average.
My preference for women that I date is 5'7 - 5'9 (170cm - 176cm).

I don't know...I definitely get where you're coming from, but I'd still have to disagree. Peter Crouch is of course much lankier than Kevin Nash and looks taller on his own, but up close Kevin Nash would be much more intimidating and give off a much more freakish vibe. Peter Crouch is basically a normal guy with an average sized upper body but very long limbs that stretch him to to 6'7-6'8. Kevin Nash is a legit giant who is a normal dude proportionally scaled up to 6'8-9. Between the two, I would consider Kevin Nash to be "freaky tall" and Peter Crouch to be "freaky lanky".
Peter Crouch is 3cm taller than me and probably 2/3rds of my weight. Kevin Nash is at least 5cm taller than me and at least 60lbs heavier. Despite the fact that Peter would look taller at a distance, Kevin would be much more imposing and more likely to leave a "freaky tall" impression up close.

12:23 PM - 178.83cm

The average of the measurements comes out to 178.95cm or 5'10.45. I did a little bit of walking today, but not much (like less than ten minutes throughout the whole day). I spent most of my time at my desk on my computer. Didn't do any heavy lifting. Well, I do believe height matters in Sweden as much as any other Western country, but I do think that you in Sweden generally do not get away with claiming to be taller. My brother for instance is 6ft to 6ft 1, clearly a medium-sized guy per Swedish standards. I feel there is no chance he'd get away with claiming 6ft 2 or 3, while probably no one would bat an eye if he claimed a lower measurement, like 5ft 11. Whereas in the US or UK, people sometimes do get away with inflating, except to height experts like Rob Paul.
This might come from what we call the jantelagen in Swedish (Law of Jante in English), which in short is an unwritten law in the Swedish/Scandinavian mentality that you shall never think you are better than anyone and always strive to be mediocre. Maybe the jantelagen influences people to have a more pessimistical view on height.

I've been measured at a doctor at 6'1 and it's the same when I measure myself at home. I've tried everything, measuring my hair when it's really short, measuring at different places and using different measuring tapes. Still the same thing. My eyelevel is pretty low though for some reason, like 171cm or maybe slightly more.
So I doubt that I'm significantly shorter than I think I am. I really don't know what I'm doing wrong when I measure myself in that case.
I don't know if @Henrik is going to answer your comment, but in a comment he wrote a couple of weeks ago here, he said he is almost 6'2, and that he's been guessed at 5'9-5'11. He lives in Sweden too.
adrianjacobs said on 14/Feb/23

I'm going to guess you were referring to me and not @adrianposter. As I said, I don't why it's like that here. I'm guessing it's something about Swedish mentality and how you're not supposed to think you're better than you are ("jantelagen"). People like putting others down too and when they see a slightly unattractive person, they're going to guess an unattractive height.
People are ridiculously tall here as well but still think of heights as in the olden days when the average was lower. So they see a guy who looks average and think "that guy must be like 178cm" or a guy who is slightly taller than average and think "he must be 183", when in reality they are like 185cm and 190cm tall respectively.
Jdubbz said on 14/Feb/23
For the people who say "the world isn't built for very tall people", that may be true on a larger scale. The great thing about being a human is that we have the ability to change our local environment. A 6'9 dude for example isn't forced to live in a tiny house with short counters and short doorways, or to drive in a car with little legroom or headroom. No one is forcing him to fly economy and be miserable. We can tailor our environment to be more suitable for our height.
It's not CHEAP, and it does take some effort, but yes it is entirely possible to be comfortable in this world at extremely tall heights. I'm not even talking about my own height of 6'6, but people much taller than that. Even those who are 7 foot or taller
Those who think that being super tall = always miserable and uncomfortable clearly have no clue what they're talking about. Yes, I would rather be 6'9 than 5'9 because I love the advantages of being really tall and have the ability to mitigate the disadvantages. I understand why most people would disagree, but I'm not most people.

As far as the 5'11 or 6'5 debate goes....yes, it's possible to have absolute garbage proportions at 6'5 especially if you're super lanky like that dude Rob has listed on here 6'5 146 pounds and super long neck narrow body. I'd take a strong-framed wide shouldered 5'11 over that without a doubt.
Yes, I agree 100%. Proportions matter a huge deal. I would always take 6'5 over 5'11 since I'm taller than 6'5 already, but I'm lucky to have "normal person scaled up" type proportions, as opposed to the very tall guys who have the upper body of a normal person, but just super long arms and legs. Lanky proportions aren't the worst thing in the world, but they're not really desirable.
If you're talking about the 6'5 celeb that I think you are (Robert Nairne), then I totally agree being that lanky looking is undesirable. Nothing against him, but that sort of body type does start to look a bit "goofy", for lack of a better word. It's just not a great combination. Long head, skinny arms and legs, narrow shoulders, etc.
Now, being very tall but having proportions like Ken Kirzinger or Daniel Cudmore (6'6.5") is a totally different story. You need frame width to balance out height. I wouldn't mind being even taller than I am now, as long as my proportions remained balanced. Unfortunately, that seems to be pretty rare looking at most of the super tall 6'7+ guys out there.
Jdubbz said on 14/Feb/23
Can anyone who is from or lives in Sweden confirm that what adrianjacobs is saying is true? Height inflation is present in basically every western country (maybe every country), so to say that people in Sweden somehow buck the trend and DEFLATE height sounds very far fetched to me.
What differentiates Sweden from any other country where being a tall male is desirable, and thus height claims skew upwards?
Again, it sounds more like the guy is significantly shorter than he thinks he is and is just upgrading everyone else to compensate. A legit 6'0-1 guy isn't going to be consistently guessed at 5'9 in any Western country. It's just too far fetched to believe. Even with a huge forehead or otherwise bad proportions.

A curious fact, prehistoric European men were tall (about 179 cm, Paleolithic men) compared to the population that lived between the end of the Upper Paleolithic and the Mesolithic, and from the Mesolithic to the Neolithic, which had averages between 165 -170 cm.
Despite this, the women were relatively short and robust(158 cm - 54 kg)
Click Here There is evidence that the average was also around 179cm and 182cm for men and 173cm/172cm for women in what is now India.

But all I can say is....Look at someone like Ken Kirzinger. What a total BADASS towering 6'5 height and Perfect body frame (not too big, nor lanky) and proportions to go with it.
I'll take a 6'5 like that any day. Every time.
6’7 over 5’11 though? I mean looking at all the handsome men who are 6’7 range such as Stephen merchant and Peter crouch etc

5’11 over 6’5 without question. Most people underestimate how tall a legit 5’11 is and how truly towering a legit 6’5 is. This is coming from someone who is 6’0 FYI.

In my opinion, it would be an interesting question to ask which height would you choose, 5'11 or 6'2, 5'11 or 6'1, 5'11 or 6'3, because i think it would be close.
Most people would choose 5'11 over 6'5, maybe because they hear about the stereoptypes, don't have experiences with tall heights, or because they think it's more comfortable or aesthetic.
If a lot of people were asked which height would they choose 5'11 or 6'3? I think it would be close, but in favour of 5'11 maybe 55-45.
5'11 or 6'2? Probably 6'2 would edge it, 60-40 or 55-45.
But i think most people would choose 6'1 over any height in my personal experience, it has generally long been considered the ideal height by many, maybe this could change a bit if we grew a bit more taller though.
Also, some people think 5'11 sounds different, it could be different for many if you ask 180 or 188 cm, because i don't think many people are aware of how 5'11 looks though.

Rob claims that the stadiometer he used back in 2014 added 1/8" extra to his actual height, so accounting for that, his averaged height should be 173.9cm or 5'8.46". When I calculate the average of Jenny's measurements that were taken in 2015 (174.5cm, 173.65cm, 172.84cm, 172.34cm, and 172.43cm), I get 173.15cm. Accounting for the 1/8" error, her height would be 172.83cm or 5'8.04". Based on this information, Rob, would you classify yourself as a weak 5'8 1/2" and Jenny as a strong 5'8 in 2015, or do you think the averaged heights are a little bit too high for what you would classify yourself and Jenny in 2015 as?

Editor Rob
A strong 5ft 8 or weak 5ft 8.5 can meet in the middle at 8.25.
In 2015 Jenny probably still could be classed a solid 5ft 8, before she then lost more than just a fraction.

I went fulltime online from 2001-2002 and churned through a lot of sites before CelebHeights.com. I saw the potential of it becoming a long-termer, although my idea was 5 years and move on. My opinion:
About 80th - tall-ish (180-181cm)
About 85th - Low end tall (182-183cm)
About 90-97th - tall solid (184 - 190cm)

I don't think that 5'7 guys will feel tall next to average height white girls in the United States. He would be a whopping two inches taller than her! That's not exactly towering. He would be around the same height as most women his age in some countries in the Balkans and Northern Europe.

170 cm (a fraction under 5'7) to 190 cm at noon are decent heights in my opinion.
6'0 (182-183 cm) is the perfect height and 6'2 (188 cm) is the alpha male. 189-190 cm (weakers 6'3) still very decent heights

We're just being pedantic and obsessing about small details lol. I have no problem with accepting anything. The times I've been measured at my GP or any physician have just always been earlier in the day, and I'm usually around 183.5-184 cm. I can drop to a smidgen below 183 cm at me evening low, so around 1 cm lower than what I'd measure at a physical examination around lunch.
Does it bother you what we think or what? It's just height lmao

Emil@ you are right dude, statistically speaking I should be 80th percentile but sometimes feel 75 - 80th among the below 50 crowd, but the people I deal with day to day generally are over 6ft by a bit, not under. you are a cm taller than me at extreme lows and the cm makes a big difference really

I am 189.5cm (6ft 2.6) first thing during the day and 187.5cm (6ft 1.8) before bed using box and tape measure, and I live in central Sweden.
In crowded areas I usually see a couple of guys who are a good two to three inches taller than me, and I know personally two guys who are 6ft 5. Four inches on me (6ft 6) is rare, though. I feel like there's a big difference between 6ft 2 and 4, even though it is only two inches.
My experience is that by Scandinavian standards, many people consider tall to start at 6ft 3 or 190cm as we say in metric.

@jdubbz Everyone has their own definitions, but to me, i would say that guys from 197 cm and up are exceptionally tall in most countries, but not "feaky" or in other translation "crazy".
I have a friend who is 206 cm, and he described himself as having "extreme length". physically speaking, i guess guys from about 6'9 start looking incredibly tall.
Hmm...I wouldn't say 197cm is exceptional in most western countries, but it's certainly very tall. Exceptional would have to be at least 2 meters or taller. I respect your opinion though - this is a very subjective topic after all.
As for your 2.06m friend, he's definitely what I would call exceptionally tall. Freaky tall is something else though, and I hate using that description because of how demeaning it is. I've seen a few 6'9 - 6'11 guys over the years, and I never thought that their height was freaky. Extreme or exceptional, sure, but seeing them didn't "freak me out".
I did sorta feel that way when I saw a 7'2-3 range guy a few years ago, but that's because seeing someone who is nearly a full head taller than me is so incredibly rare. He gave a very different impression than those 6'9-11 guys, so if freaky tall is a thing, it would describe those who are over 7 foot. At least from my perspective.

When I measure my height facing the wall with a hardcover book, I always get a measurement 1/8" lower than what I get when I measure myself on my stadiometer right before or after the hardcover book measurement.
I used the spine of the book to measure myself and I made sure the book was long enough so that it goes past the top of my head (the book I used was longer than my feet). I also made sure the book was lightweight enough so that it's easy to hold it straight against the wall. Even then my measurements against the wall with the spine of a hardcover book were consistently about 1/8" lower than the stadiometer measurements I took right before or after. However, when I compared my tape measure to my stadiometer at exactly 5'5" which is right below my eye-level so that I have a good view of how tall they are compared to each other, they were the same height from the ground.
Point is, when I measure 5'10 5/16" on my stadiometer, I would measure about 5'10 3/16" facing the wall with the spine of a hardcover book on top of my head at the same time.

Meeting a few people recently, and whew one guy I know claimed 6'2" but my cousin who is probably a strong 6 foot honestly looks a bit taller than him. I suppose it is human nature to exaggerate things. I remember recently some guy from Toronto was trying to tell people it "AVERAGES" -20 there, and looking at each and every data site, I noticed the average January low temperature at Pearson Airport is at -9.4C (I am using the colder weather station to help their claim). Now this is before wind chill, but even with wind chill they would need to average 41 k/h winds at -9.4C to average a wind chill of -20 in Toronto, and it doesn't average anywhere near that wind speed. I suppose it is similar with some people trying to claim 6 foot in a way. Wake up at 5 foot 10.75, and maybe put on some sneakers, boom you are "6 feet tall". I suppose it is human nature in a way to exaggerate things in general idk.

Is your "true height" your evening height or something? Why? Can't you just accept that's what it is?

Hello Rob, something interesting happened last week... I saw Malmö FF (we beat Celtic a few years ago in the Champions League play-off) playing and I stood next to most of the players. It was shocking how many of the players were several inches shorter than their listings.. some of them was listed as 178 but were maybe 5’7” or 5’8” at best and there were players listed as 6’0” who were shorter than me like Patriot Sejdiu. I think the biggest inflation was Moustafa Zeidan who is listed as 5’9” but was closer to 5’5”, definitely under 5’6” anyway.

When over 50% of the population is made up of women and children, that isn't really saying much. Also, the average woman isn't 5'2-3, but 1.5 inches taller than that.
I get wanting to feel special in some way, but comparing your height to the average woman in an effort to feel above average isn't the way to do it. A 5 foot tall man would feel super tall in a classroom full of 6 year olds. Does that mean he's super tall? Of course not, because that's not a fair comparison.

Not sure how that represents the entire male population as a whole though. Other studies have shown that average height is around 181.9 cm for young ethnic Danish men. Again, evening low is probably 181 cm or a smidgen below.
I'm around 183 cm at my evening low, and in a room of 10 young Danish guys, I'm usually taller than around 5-7. Rarely less, rarely more. It varies a bit.

Still, having said that, one cannot deny that there is hardly a shortage of tall Scandinavians.

adrianjacobs: Check out the ncd height calculator data, it's from 2019 and one of the most accurate studies, the studies are based on national surveys and not selfreported studies, so it's almost no chance that it's less than 3 hours out of bed, so up till 8 hours out of bed, you will be max 0.5 to 1 cm shorter. I'ts 19 year olds and the Swedes were 180.5 cm on average.
From all the studies i have seen, 181.5 cm was the maximum average. Interms of numbers atleast, the average is not 182-183 cm.
From all that has been seen, it's hard to see the average ethnic Swede below 180 cm, but not above 182 cm either. One of the tallest people in the world for a reason.
But if the ncd data is correct, they may still be incorrect at some countries. Only 180 cm for a young Swede is still a possibility.

It's typically quite close, though on the white stadiometer the metric reading is 1mm higher than the tape measure.

The average was measured at 5'11.5 for 20-29 year-old swedish men 16 years ago.
And female average of 5'4-5'5? Just curious, please answer this. Never mind that's literally been measured at just over 5'6. If 5'4-5'5 is the average of swedish women, what is the average in countries like UK or America? 5'2?

5'10 can't be average height for a young Swedish man. Even at an evening low I highly doubt it would below 5'11
The average was literally measured at 5'11.5 for 20-29 years old men in 2008, so that was 16 years ago. The average now must obviously be at least as tall, and yet we have these swedes here who know that average is 5'10 or whatever. Honestly, I think the specific height they think of as average may very well be average, they just don't know how 6ft or 6ft1 looks like. They think of it as "5'10-5'11" when it's really much taller. It's the reversed situation of literally all of the rest of the world.
As for my evening low, I'm not sure. I measure it at around 185cm, but my eye level is like 171cm and many of you here would say "impossible". So I don't know. Maybe 184cm or 185cm. Could be even lower, I really don't know, but somewhere in that 6'-6'1 range I suppose.

Ronnie Corbett is a flat five foot but he's not a dwarf.

@Daniel Lee: I'm not sure about that claim. The little people group just says under 4'10 is the start, which makes no sense for a few reasons. They don't take ethnicity or gender into account, for two things. It's just 4'10 for everybody! I think that it's 5'0 and 4'8 for men and women respectively. The heights might be lower in certain countries. I know a lot of girls in the 4'10-4'11 range. They don't seem like dwarfs to me.

How tall is the average 18-25 woman in UK, Rob? I'm guessing close to 5'5, maybe 5'4.75 at night?

I have just read that people under 4'10 (according to other sources is counting the 4'10) must be called dwarfs or little person.
In my opinion :
Under 157 cm (5'2) = dwarf
157 cm - 159 cm = semi dwarf
160 cm (5'3) - 162 cm = start of "normal height"
Women:
4'9 flat and under dwarf
4'9-4'10 semi dwarf
4'10-4'11 start of "normal height"

You live in a European country, right? I live in Sweden and feel below average often at 6ft-6ft1 range
@Adrian
What's your evening low? I can feel a bit shorter than average at times but that's mostly if I'm seeing people from afar. When I'm out clubbing and standing closer to people, I notice I'm taller than most guys, but a small majority of course

I'm beginning to see Adrianjacobs perspective, there's a lot of tall Swedish people, especially in crowded places. No idea how he feels below average at almost 6'1 though, that seems impossible
Generally I'd say the average in my school for male teachers is like 5'10-5'11, the shortest teacher I have is like 5'9-5'10 and he's never seen as short by like anyone, and the tallest is around 6'1-6'1.5. None of them really stand out as anything else but roughly average except maybe the 6'1-6'1.5 guy and even that's debatable. Generally, walking around the school though, I've seen way shorter and taller teachers than that. The shortest I think would be a guy who was like 5'3 max, possibly even as low as 5ft, while the tallest was like 6'8, 6'9 or so. Average for women seems to be solidly 5'4-5'5 territory
The younger generation is probably taller than the older, even if some argue against that theory. I rarely see guys my age around 5'5-5'6, and when I do, I get genuinely surprised. I know one guy who was like 5'5-5'6 but he grew over the summer and is like 5'6.5 now. Wouldn't be surprised if the average really is like 5'11-5'11.5 for younger guys

Hello @Rob,
What does "near 5ft 8" or "near 2 inches" mean?

Editor Rob
I'd say within a 1/4 inch of it.
