No, the average is not 5'11 in Stockholm. Most of the non-swedish people here who have been in Stockholm agree that it's over 6feet, because there's simply not much to argue or reflect over. @John185 thought it was 6'1.5 midday and that's fairly reasonable in my opinion.

@adrianjacobs the fact that someone called you 5'9 out of the blue, you don't look 6'1 in photos (i thought you were around 5'10 first time i saw that pic) and you constantly inflate others height to validate your claim makes me think (and i think now a few of people here do) that you're not a legit 6'1 and not even 6'0.

John185@ Of course you will feel tall in general at 185cm, I had a business meeting on the Cornwall and Devon border last week and I was the tallest person out of 12 people in the room, granted I hadn’t picked up a chainsaw that day or done anything really strenuous but even a 5.11 dude like me should sometimes feel tallish in some rare situations.. John do you claim 6ft or 6ft 1 if asked?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
@(Billythetreesurgeon)
"I had a business meeting on the Cornwall and Devon border last week and I was the tallest person out of 12 people in the room".
- Somehow, I'm not especially surprised by this statement.
I would actually classify 5'11 as the start of tall in parts of Devon and Cornwall as opposed to just tallish.
..Seems to me that some areas have an average of 5'8.5/5'9 for young men. But because these places also have many more inhabitants over the age of 50, the average as a whole can sometimes be as low as 5'7.5/5'8.
I claim 6'1. Although if the topic of height gets discussed in any detail (for example if I'm having a conversation with a woman I'm dating) I might also mention that I'm 6'0 3/4 at a low.

How does it add up to 5'11.5 for all social demographics if the average was 6-6'2 in the financial districts? Was the average 5'10 somewhere?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
@adrianjacobs
181cm/182cm - (5'11.5) seemed to be the collective average for young Swedes in Stockholm excluding the financial districts which by themselves are 6'0.5.
I did say that the average appeared to be 6'1/6'2 after observing around 50 men at midday, but subsequently at 4pm having gauged the heights of several hundred more I revised this to 6'0.5.
The disparity between rich and poor is not quite as pronounced in Sweden as it is in England for example, but the financial districts are a minority subset compared to the population at large.
In the north of Sweden the average is around 178cm - 180cm depending on how northerly you travel. Some of the indigenous or less mixed populations have short averages by European standards.

The tallest country in the world is the Netherlands and their average height is just shy of 6 feet. A quick Google search will show you that average height in Sweden is 5’11.
Either you have a bad perception of height and don’t know what certain heights look like, or you’re insecure and only notice taller guys while ignoring shorter ones, because more than half the men in Sweden are below 6 feet. It may slightly vary between different cities by coincidence, but only slightly. Men in Stockholm are not multiple inches taller than men in Copenhagen lol. You’re imagining it.

Hi Rob, i want to ask you a question i had in my head for a while now. I have 2 friends who both got measured 181 cm on stadiometer during physical exam, and both of them got measured at 180 cm with my tape measure. Same goes to my older cousin who claims 171 cm, but got measured 170 cm with my tape measure. Mind you, tape measure is quite old one. So would you say they get 1 cm error because tape measure is old, or is that more accurate measurement?

Editor Rob
1cm difference isn't huge, because when people get measured at Doctor offices, there's as much chance they are sitting on say 180.5 as 181 and it will get rounded.
However if you are good at measuring somebody, and you know the tape and wall/floor is flat, then your figure could be bang on.

Even the model, Pia Wurtzbach who you have listed on this sight as 1.70m looks taller than these fake claimers with 3 inch heels.
I'm starting to meet more and more people that make these fake claims that they are actually 6 feet tall, when they are clearly somewhere closer my height (1.74m). I think this is why a lot of people think guys who are of average height are shorter than they actually are.

Editor Rob
Some people like to be seen as more impressive than they actually are, and boosting height is an easy one.
Now people who visit sites like this do question these claims! However, the vast majority of fans aren't going to be giving what the celebrity claims that much thought...

Canson, i do agree with what you said recently. 1/8-1/4 round down. 3/8-5/8 claim the 1/2 and 3/4-7/8 round up. These are obviously for normal lows. Typically I'm 6'0 1/8 lunchtime or 6'0.25 on relaxed days but my life is pretty active so more often I'm going be 6'0 in afternoons or a bit under on really physical days such as work plus gym by the evenings.

Wow, I'm a bit surprised you experience such persistent back pain at your height. Of course 6'2ish is solidly tall, but most tall guys with moderate to severe back pain are usually over 6'4 or 6'5 at least. The longer torso/shorter legs probably contribute, in addition to your smaller joints for your height, but I'm still surprised. With my stats (7.8" wrists and 37" pants inseam, so average to slightly above average frame size and leg length for my height), I only experience back pain when I go through long bouts of inactivity or if I'm much more overweight than I need to be. Based on the picture you posted a while back, I don't think the latter applies to you.
In my case, any physical activity (especially things like weighted planks and pull-ups, but even walking or running) eliminate or mitigate it pretty quickly. Omega 3 supplementation and glucosamine help too, if you haven't tried those before. Another thing that helped me was sleeping with a pillow under my knees. A while back I also suffered from some postural issues (kyphosis and anterior pelvic tilt) that not only exacerbated back pain but also stole a half inch from my true height. Being very tall and being hunched over a laptop all day is hell on your back. Thankfully I managed to correct and at least slightly reverse those issues with some exercises I found on YouTube.
I still have slight APT, but my kyphosis is all but eliminated, and I went from a weak 6'6 to a strong 6'6 thanks to postural improvements. I'm not sure if Rob allows YouTube links, but the video is called "excercises to correct hunchback posture, kyphosis and forward head carriage". I still do these exercises daily, and they help so much. Even if you don't suffer from those problems, strengthening the underlying muscles should help quite a bit with your back pain. Good luck, and I hope the pain improves for you.

Sure, it's a very solid 6'1.5 in the afternoon in Stockholm, maybe not 6'2-6'3, and the standard deviation is very narrow. I do see men under 6ft sometimes, but it's nearly always old people and immigrants. Young ethnic swedes are virtually never under 6ft.
This is a bit of a confusing statement...if the average is 6'1.5, how is it so rare to see a young ethnic Swede under 6 foot? Even with a super small 6cm standard deviation, heights under 6 foot would still represent 1/4 of the male population. That's still quite common, relatively speaking.

Wow! I always thought the Japanese were even shorter than that but I just checked the percentage calculator and sure enough the average guy in Japan is a little over 5'7. Almost 2 inches shorter on average than here in the US.
It's showing 6'2 as 98% like you said, or 1 in 65 are taller than that versus 1 in 19 in the US/UK.
So according to the stats it would be roughly equal to seeing a 6'4 guy in the US, which isn't super rare but not common either meaning sometimes you can go out in public and not see a 6'4+ guy, same as 6'2 in Japan.
@ Henrik
I'm a weak 6'2 guy with shorter than average legs and a long, narrow spine with super small joints (Barely 6" wrist, most 6 ft guys would be 8") and I'm always fighting back pain and I'm only 33. However I know bigger-framed guys with shorter spines that have no problems. Some guys well over 6 ft are free of back pain, it just depends on genetics and fitness/health. I drew pretty bad genes for back pain, plus my fitness admittedly isn't great either.
As far as a shorter life goes, that tends to hold true but I'd say for 99% of tall people it's negligible. Richard Kiel who was a towering 7'2 lived to 75, so unless you're near or above the 7 ft range I wouldn't worry about it. I would guess there's very, very little or even no statistical difference for age of death between 5'4 guys and 6'0 guys. Poor Richard was crippled by his 50s though, so fitness and posture is critical especially when you get near the 6'6 zone and beyond. And even that isn't a guarantee but it damn sure can't hurt.

I have friends living in Stockholm and been there a couple times, and that's definitely not my perception. I've seen numerous Swedish guys in Stockholm below 6 foot. I agree that 6'0-6'1 seems pretty average, but it's not uncommon to see Swedes below 6 foot, come on. Complete nonsense
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it reasonable for me to chime in on your statement Emil, I have also met plenty of short Swedes, but some were indigenous or otherwise from the central or northern provinces.
My first experience in Stockholm was in the financial districts, and it's pretty fair to say that my conclusion was the average after observing heights of around 50 men appeared to be as much as 6'1/6'2 midday. I was wearing converse shoes so 186cm was probably the adjusted average.
Interestingly, after assessing several hundred people (in suits) around 4pm, the average was around 183.5cm/184cm gauging to the best of my ability.
Having said this I can say with a great degree of certainty that in Stockholm as a collective the young male average for all social demographics is around 181cm/182cm at a normal low.
The evening/late night average is around 181.5cm. (5'11.5cm.)
Speaking of Sweden and Finland - but just as much so Norway, there is a notable disparity of average height between the northern and southern regions.

Why would the average height for one country affect the average height for another country? It's not like there's a selective amount of "height points" that every country has to collect for their population. The average male height measured in the UK is apparently 5ft 9, and the average male height in Sweden (no idea if it was measured or self-reported) was 5ft 11. But that hardly means that these are logical "equivalents" of each other in those countries, i.e "a 6'3 guy in the UK would be like 6'1 in Sweden" or "a 5'9 guy in the UK would be like 5'7 in Sweden"; that's not what "average" means
If you are referring to the "Swedish ethnicity", then I'm not sure that I can help you, since I've been referring to the general male average of the Swedish country all this time, regardless of ethnicity, but I guess maybe it would be like one cm higher if we only included "ethnically Swedish people"

No what I said was quite clear. 6’4 is solid tall anywhere on planet earth, and very tall in 99% of situations. You can source whatever you’d like, I still won’t agree with 6’4 in Sweden being the equivalent of 6’1.8” in the US. Which, if you can use a bit of extrapolation logic, does not imply that I think the US and Sweden are similar in height, Sweden is obviously taller. My main point was it’s absolutely lunacy to refer as 6’4 as “tallish” anywhere on planet earth.

They are taller than many other regions of Sweden. I've said that several times before.
People in Stockholm are A LOT taller than people in Copenhagen though. Men in Copenhagen in general seem to be more "normal-sized" compared to Stockholm. They really did seem to be 5'11-6'1 on average when I was there last summer and not 6'2-6'3 like Stockholm. It wasn't uncommon for me to see men below 6ft in Copenhagen, which is very very rare in Stockholm.

This is because too many people inflate their heights. Even taller guys will add an inch or two. In Hollywood, many add two or three inches. It's ridiculous! The end result is all men under 5'9 are considered short, when actually 5'9 is practically 50 percentile.
Take me for example. I'm 5'10 out of bed, so during most of the day I am 5'9.5 barefoot. If I claim that height, people will picture me at 5'8 or less because the common consensus of height is 2 inches taller than the reality. So I claim my morning height of 5'10 and still people are surprised that I am as tall as I am being 5'9.5 mid-day. We need to fix this height bias stigma. It's a problem in our current society.

Funnily enough, yeah, one of the guys is a pro american football player who is frequently measured both in height and weight since he's 190-191 cm and weighs like 70 kg. He basically wants to keep track of his weight since he's always been very thin and for the sport being heavy is an advantage, especially if you're around his height
He gets alot of girls, not because he's especially charming, good-looking, funny (I guess he could get one or two points in that aspect if I'm being nice), kind, reasonable, fatherly, good-smelling, smart (definitely has minus points in that aspect), hairy, or even masculine, but because he's an especially tall and lanky guy, who's typically the tallest person in 99% of situations
I feel like the archetypical Swedish guy from a decent middle class suburb is 5'9-5'11, light brown hair, green or blue eyes, has a 5'10-6'0 dad, a 5'4-5'7 mom, one younger brother who's 5'8-5'9 constantly made fun of for being "the small one" while claiming to be "5'11" and thus "average", and one older brother who's like 6'1-6'3 who no one knows where the tall genes came from (most likely from like a 6'3-6'4 grandfather). This is just jokes ofc, but I feel like there is some truth to it based on the people I know lol

I'm not saying that the benefits of being taller aren't real, but sometimes I think that the benefits are overstated by height obsessed communities like ours. I'm always surprised by the number of people who think I'm 5'9"--maybe I just have good proportions?
On the subject of preferred height, I'm not even sure if I'd want to be 5'11" to be honest. I think if I had a choice I'd like to be a legitimate 5'10"--it's just a really solid size with great proportions without being visibly tall.
But to be one hundred percent honest I would have been thrilled to have been one inch taller at a legitimate 5'8"--I think I'd feel a lot less pressure to lie about my height, and worry less about the fact that so many people inflate their own heights. I've met a few 5'5" women who have claimed 5'7". I haven't met many 5'5"/5'6" women who have claimed 5'8".

Speaking of inseam and waist, I was ordering some joggers for my Father and we weren't sure about sizing.
So I got a 31 inseam and 32-3 waist. It was too long for him, where in the past he'd be wearing 31-2 inseam. His knees are a bit permanently bent now, so I think that's knocked some height from below the waist. I got the 29 inch and it wasn't short on him.
I can still fit 32 waist, but 33 at the moment is about right. Inseam I would go either 30 or 31 as it's between the two. Or if a 32 I would ask Jenny to re-hem to 30.5"
I hadn't weighed myself for ages but my Mother has new scales and I am currently 175 lbs.

Start of tall isn’t the same thing as tallish. Tallish, in the US, is generally agreed to be 5’11. To equate 5’11 to 6’4 in even the tallest country in the world is madness. Even so, I would argue that saying 6’4 is the start of tall anywhere in the world is also madness. For that to be the case, let’s assume a city center of 100k people. The average male height ages 18-50 would need to be roughly 6’2 for that to be true. That simply doesn’t exist. Let’s stop playing games, 6’4 is bare minimum SOLID TALL anywhere on planet earth. In 9/10 situations, it’s VERY TALL. Case closed…

6'3/190 is definitely solid tall, if not standout tall. I know around 4 guys that height and they are all considered to be noticeably very tall, they're the "tall lanky guys" in pretty much every friend group
Something as low as 185/6'1 could be considered tall in some social circles (in my opinion, most), and pretty much everything over that is at least "tall". There's not a single human being in Sweden not under severe delusions that would describe a 6'2 guy for example as "a bit above average", that's just a rock-solid tall if not very tall height to most people here. Something like 183 cm could be "a bit above average", but over 184 and you're into tall territory
Similarly, something like 174 could be "a bit below average", but most people wouldn't consider it a "short" height. I know that our former prime minister Stefan Löfven is billed as 175 cm but my buddy who's around 173 cm met him and they were the exact same height (I've seen them together as well), and if you look at pictures with Löfven he hardly comes across as a short guy.
But to answer your question; yes, 191-193 cm are very tall heights in Sweden. And 195 cm is just huge. Tall begins at around 185 cm, and the typical average heights are anywhere from 175-183 cm

What's also weird is that if I see someone taller, usually they're much taller and not "just" 6'7. Tallest I saw last semester at my university had to have been around 7 foot. Imagine being 6'6 and turning a corner then suddenly being eye level with a dude's chin. It's pretty jarring lol

@Emil @AdrianJacobs:
Would it be fair to say that 194 or 195cm is when you start getting into the legit tall category in Sweden or Denmark? Or would you say the threshold is lower, like 6'3-4/191-193cm?
Okidoki said on 23/Feb/23
@QM6'1.5 QM Yes and i agree with him that sometimes the average can seem taller, like about 6'1 when going to bars, shopping malls etc and around 5'8-5'9 for women at times.
I am from Scandinavia and all the countries should be close between all the ethnic nordic People.
He has also said the reason why the Swedish average is 5'11.5 is because it was a long time ago, but one of the most reliable sources, the ncd data, says the Swedish average is only 180.5 cm, 5'11, from 2019. Other national sources also say either 5'11 or 5'11.5 range, not many years ago.
Seeing 5'9 women and 6'1 men is quite common, but in my experience, seeing women over 5'10 is not rare, but not really common though.
In my experience, when meeting young men and women in crowded places, sometimes, i get the impression the average is 6'1 and 5'8-5'9, but also other times, i get the impression that the average is between 5'10-6'0 and 5'5-5'7 too, so it varies. Sometimes it can seem 50/50, other times, 5'10-6'0 average can seem more common to see, between young people in particular.
One should use his own head when seeing and analyzing in my opinion, but all the statistical data, both national surveys and international surveys, say that young Scandinavian men average between 5'11-5'11.75 though and those are only a few years ago too.
Also, i personally find it unrealistic that ethnic Swedish people in Stockholm are around 2 inches taller than let's say a smaller city in Sweden. Ofcourse, this is his personal experience and i respect that.
@adrianjacobs I meant that you could maybe try to hold the measuring tape beside you while looking in the mirror, but the method you used was good though. You are probably close to, if not accurate there.

adrianjacobs said on 23/Feb/23
@QM6'1.5"QM
It was measured at 5'11.5 for men aged 20-29 in 2008, so I don't know why you assume that it's 5'11 for "high middle class white guys", which it in any case absolutely isn't. Maybe it really is only 6ft for all swedish men, but it most definitely is not a millimeter below 6'1 for the kind of guys you talk about.
Seriously, not to be rude, but shouldn't you at least visit Sweden before you start assuming how tall people are here?

I believe that tall/above average people is easier to get job or social activity. Maybe it's a reason why you see more tall people in urban city life. The same resason with colleges/universities/ stuff like this.
I still believe about 5'11" might be like avg height (sweden) of "high middle class" white guy who had good nutrition growing up. Or you're just misunderstanding the difference.
I'm gonna to swear that people/men 1.5-2 inches shorter than you and you feel they're like yours height.
Do you have some mates 5'10-5'11-6'0" ? then you can compared to others.
I think when you sees someone is 2-3inches taller than your eyelevel, you will considering him the same tall as you, it's very possible plus your eyelevel not typical anymore.
"I think actually not one single guy was shorter than me, but not a lot of them were much taller either." - in this case, EVERY single guy was like 6'2" ? LOL.

Do you ever, at least semi-regularly, see shorter guys? I realize that the average may be higher in downtown Östermalm than say Skärholmen, but I think you should at least once a day see a guy that's like 5'5? Idk, but in my experience there's pretty much always one out of maybe eight guys at the subway that's at least a bit shorter than me and then like one guy around my height or a bit taller
I think your eyelevel is throwing you off a lot, and I think you should try looking at yourself in a nearby mirror (as in, maybe not necessarily a literal mirror, but like a transparent window or something) to see how you actually look next to people. Something I noticed when I was a bit shorter than I am now was that I often overestimated how tall I thought I looked next to someone, only to be shocked by how short I actually appeared in the mirror. Recently I've been feeling the opposite, thinking that I look diminutive only to see that I'm like barely shorter than someone in the mirror. Also, try not to judge people's heights when walking around, it says nothing about the height that they actually measure. Most roads are uneven and walking posture can vary a lot, for example yours doesn't exactly look amazing in the pic you linked, which means you lose more height than someone with better posture

Heck, in countries like the Netherlands or Sweden (according to AdrianJacobs), I'd probably be totally unremarkable and just another tall guy at 199cm. In the US, I have gone months without seeing anyone noticeably taller.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for confirming what I was thinking. I am sure Adrian feels below average to short at times, but not to the point that the average Swedish guy is 6'4/193 or something insane like that, which would be true if 6'1 was only 10-20th percentile like he implied. 185cm isn't short anywhere in the world except maybe a few remote tribes in Africa. I think Adrian is truly average to above average height even for a young Swedish guy, but he just doesn't feel that way. It could be a combination of things - height blindness (only paying attention to taller and ignoring shorter), relatively low eye level, thinking people who are his height are taller, etc. That or he just has bad luck and constantly runs into groups of tall guys.

He looks typical because he's skinny and that makes him look taller on photos. 5'9 is not typical size for Scandinavian countries. You said it yourself, you're almost 6'2 and feel upper average range, which would make 5'9 short for sure, not just lower average range. I would say 6'4 is just about borderline tallish/tall in Stockholm.
You're obviously being influenced by what people are saying here.
Henrik said on 21/Feb/23
An average height in Sweden of 6ft 1 would mean that a 6ft 4 guy was tallish. 😜 I am fairly certain that, at least where I live, 6ft 4 would be seen as very tall and tower the majority of the population.
PewDiePie is 5ft 9 and according to some of what I read here, he would be an enigma. He is in fact a rather typical Swedish guy both looks-wise and in size. I grew up with someone who sort of looked like him.
Our current PM, Ulf Kristersson, is 5ft 7. Our former PM, Stefan Löfven, is 5ft 9. The former Minister for Justice, Morgan Johansson, is 5ft 3.5. Small rulers of the land of giants. 😁

I've visited several parts of Sweden and the north definitely has a lower average than the south.
I can also echo the sentiment of Adrian Jacobs in the sense that there are a lot of 6'1/6'2 guys in downtown Stockholm. The average hovers around 6'0.5 for the business districts at midday, it's a noticeably tall place for sure.
Comparatively the average in Central London is around 5'11 due to the affluence of this part of the city.
But more telling for me was the occasions I visted nightclubs and went on party cruises. The average was around 181cm/181.5cm at night, so a very solid 5'11 for young ethnic Swedes. Having stood in many queues outside nightclubs in Stockholm and assessing several hundred people - 181cm/181.5cm certainly appeared to be the average.
In Holland the evening average for young ethnic Dutch in Amsterdam is 182.5cm/183cm from my best estimate.
But having said this as a global traveller, I would rather be 6'1 (6'0.75 in my case) and a 100% great height in the vast majority of the world, than 6'4 and a 100% great height only in a handful of countries.
As I previously mentioned 6'0/6'1 also has phenomenal aesthetics (in real life) so it's a great range to be in.

Jdubzz i totally understand you. 6'9 about 3 inches taller than you vs 5'9 which is 9 inches shorter. I'd take 6'3 over 5'3 definitely and thats equivalent of you taking 6'9 over 5'9
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
@Alex 6'0
I assume you'd take 5'9 over 6'9? I would take 5'10 over 6'10 (or technically 5'9 3/4 over 6'9 3/4).
I agree that at 6'6 it would be more logical to go up to 6'9 than drop all the way down to 5'9, but 6'3 vs 5'3 isn't quite the same thing. 5'9 is a perfectly decent height for a man, and especially so with regard to 6'9 being so inconvenient - car travel, train, plane, and public transport would be a nightmare. Beds won't be long enough, nor door frames tall enough, and shopping for clothes and shoes would be a hassle. 5'9 doesn't seem so bad by comparison.
But there likely isn't a man on the planet that would choose 5'3 over 6'3.
5'3 is a very bad height, and 6'3 is a very good height. Anything above 190cm starts to become inconvenient for everyday life and anything below 180cm is not solid enough of a height for most men's preference.
I personality think that 182cm/183cm - 188cm/189cm is the ideal range with 6'0/6'1 being the most aesthetic looking in real life.

I had that same problem when I first started paying attention to height again too. It would seem we were eye to eye especially from a distance but if you get close enough I'd realize those guys were closer to mid 6'3 range if not a full 6'4. I didn't feel totally dwarfed though, which means 6'1 3/4 holds up quite well against very-tall range flat 6'4 guys, especially with a little footwear advantage usually 1/2 inch.
Also, isn't 6'1 supposed to be like 70-80% even in the tallest countries? (Compared to near 90% in the USA) There's no way he could be even average at 6'1. It would still be tallish range at worst.
Sounds like a perception issue like you said or he happens to draw some crazy luck where all the young tall guys are out when he is.

At this point I fully believe your height claim, but there is absolutely no way that 8/9-10 Swedish guys are taller 6'1. Just impossible.
8-9/10 guys being taller than you would imply the average height of ethnic Swedes is something like 6'4-5, which is a joke. I mean you guys are definitely pretty tall, but nowhere near THAT tall. Heck, even ethnic Dutch don't average anywhere near that kind of height.
Are you absolutely sure you don't have a perception issue of some kind, where you think you're shorter than other people when you really aren't? I used to have the opposite problem where I thought I was as tall as people 1-2" taller than me.

Possibly you shrink more than you think you do from afternoon to evening due to your long spinal column? What seems clear now is that you are not under 6 and the 5-9 to 5-10 guesses were off.
Okidoki said on 19/Feb/23

Okidoki said on 19/Feb/23
@adrianjacobs I am from Scandinavia too. Have you tried coming within a 1 meter distance beside those women? Because from a distance, it may seem like the height difference isn't that big.
If you're eyelevel is around 171 cm, then you are probably around 6'0. You can make a measurement with a tape measure or something else 6 hours out of bed and find out, if you want. If 1 out of 10 is taller than you, then it must mean that 1 out of 10 is 6'1. I don't know.
The official measurements of young Swedish women is around 5'6, but i can see you're point, because sometimes, when i go to crowded places, like the mall or a big shopping center etc, it can seem like i pass a lot of women between 5'8-5'10 at once, making it seem like the average is around 5'8-5'9 at times.
For men too, in crowded places like Shopping malls or bars etc, it can sometimes seem like the average young man is around 6'1, eventhough the official measurments are 5'11 range.

As I've said before, I have a veeeery low eye level, I'm not sure if I'm the full 6'1 in the evening, but my eye level matches the one of a 6ft flat guy I think.
I think I may have looked extra lanky in that video because I was filming almost from the floor.
Here's a bunch of pics of me amongst a crowd, where I don't look short but I definitely don't look like above average:
Click Here I totally agree about the "boyish" part btw, I look like a 15-year old even though I'm 23, so that makes a shorter impression too.
Alex 6'0 said on 18/Feb/23
James b, 6'4 is typically when you stand out in crowds. 6'3 arguably the start of beginning to stand out in crowds.

@adrianjacobs
I actually think you could push out a bit more height there, but nonetheless solid measurement. You're defo not under 185 there
How anyone unironically guessed you at 5'9 just seems impossible to me, especially since you're downright lanky. I guess that's where our experiences vary since I've noticed way more people in Stockholm that overestimate their own and others height, especially taller guys, but I guess it's just anectodal of me to say that. What I have noticed is that a lot of guys exaggerate height downwards or upwards, like a friend of mine who's like 190 cm once said about a teacher who I'd guess is 176-177 "if he stood straight he'd be like 180 something, but as he's standing right now he's like 160 cm" when in reality he looked maybe 11 cm shorter than him. I've also seen generally "short-looking" or boyish guys be called "160 cm" because they give a short impression, and likewise I've seen guys that give off stereotypically tall impressions be called "like 2m or something", so I guess I agree there
One thing that I still do find odd is how you feel below average. Could you explain a bit more what you mean by that? I don't feel "tall", but at 171 cm, I can at least feel close to above average when I walk around certain förorter (suburbs?) in Stockholm. I feel short when in very crowded spaces, but other than that it's really not that bad
adrianjacobs said on 18/Feb/23
@Emil
It could be the fact that I have a very low eye level for me. Less than 172 cm in the evening almost for sure.

I can assure you there are times I feel short in Copenhagen too. It might be that people in Copenhagen are taller than in the rest of Denmark, and the same might apply with Stockholm compared to the rest of Sweden. With that said, it's mostly when people are not up close they look taller than they are. When I stand near them, in an elevator for example, I notice that people I thought were taller were actually shorter than myself.
It might be all in our heads after all. And thanks for the picture. It's a bit hard to assess how tall people are since you're not standing on the same ground level or at the same angle.
But I think your perspective is super valid and thanks for sharing them, mate.

Her height say about six hours out of bed could be 0.5-1cm less than what Guinness measured her at (197.26cm). But she looks over two inches shorter than that with Savanna, which to me is unacceptable and a legit reason to be skeptical about Guinness World Records.

Lol, the tallest kid in a gymnasium (senior high) class was usually 190-2cm, and he could rip on the guy(s) who was 186-7cm because he didn't hit 190. 😜
Like I said, 185cm would be a solid height (I mean, it's not like you'd have to worry that your height was ever an issue with women), but you would be used enough to 190-195cm guys that you wouldn't feel anything special, IMHO.

Adrian, you're legit tall guy in my eyes. You also have skinny body and probably very young like 20yrs, so you can increase muscles and developing your body. Workout, running, healthy eating (eggs, milk, meat), sports)
In this case, Sweden and their bad height guesses are really weird and untypical.

Is there any reason for me to be trolling about my height? You said a couple of days ago that I may be measuring myself incorrectly, so I wanted to show you how I do it.
If you think the line is fake, you can pay attention to the fact that I placed the pencil between the wall and the fridge right next to the line and the place where the can touched my head.
adrianjacobs said on 17/Feb/23

Well, not only do I not feel tall in Stockholm, I feel below average pretty often if not most of the time. I did feel average in Copenhagen when I was there last summer.
I posted a pic of me in a crowd in Stockholm a couple of months ago, and here it is again:
Click Here Obviously you can understand why it's ridiculously hard for me to believe how the average is "5'11" in Sweden like some people here say.
adrianjacobs said on 17/Feb/23
@Jdubbz
Not morning and not evening either, around midday. I think I only shrink about 1.5cm during the whole day, so this may have been around 0.5cm over my evening low.
Well, because like I said, people deflate height in Sweden instead of inflating it like the rest of the world. @Henrik has been guessed 5'9-5'11 at 6'2 or 6'1.75.
Do I still look shorter than 6'1 proportionally btw?
Alex 6'0 said on 17/Feb/23
Jdubzz i totally understand you. 6'9 about 3 inches taller than you vs 5'9 which is 9 inches shorter. I'd take 6'3 over 5'3 definitely and thats equivalent of you taking 6'9 over 5'9

I know this guy who would always claim he is 6ft4 1/2. Yet he stood back to back with a friend of mine who claims 187cm and they looked virtually the same height lol.
Still I don’t get why a 6ft2 guy who claim to be 6ft4-6ft5 that’s just silly

Most would choose 6ft5 over 5ft11, I reckon
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Most men in the world are below 5'11, so the vast majority around 90% would pick 5'11.
In Europe collectively more guys are below 5'11 than above it, so it's also likely that more would pick 5'11 than would 6'5 ..but not by an overwhelming margin. Perhaps 60% - 70% would choose 5'11, and 30% - 40% would pick 6'5.
In Holland, again, around 90% would likely choose 6'5 over 5'11.

If she was measured by Guinness at 197cm, then that’s how tall she is. They don’t exactly mess around. Maybe you could argue that they use averaged height throughout the day rather than evening height, but at worst she’s a half inch shorter than that and still above 6’5 at her low.
Jdubbz said on 17/Feb/23
@adrianjacobs
That actually looks like a very solid measurement. Proportionally, you look much taller than 5’9 and closer to what you’ve been claiming, plus your measurement backs that up. Was this in the morning, or are you legitimately 6’1?
You definitely proved me wrong, so kudos to you. I’m just truly baffled how a guy your height can be guessed at only 5’9 when you’re obviously taller than that.

178.67cm 12:20 PM
178.4cm 3:08 PM
178.58cm 6:24 PM
Average: 178.94cm

I'm 5ft8 and 165lbs and never get called small in terms of weight or frame. In fact because I'm muscular at this height I get called stocky or well built on a semi regular basis.
I assume you're overweight or you suffer from body dismorphia. Which is likely as you seem to spend a lot of time on here. Peace.

If you are within the world of fitness you would be considered very small, but for a normal guy, you would be called a little big. There isn't difference between 5'3 or 5'3.5, i mean both heights are on the same category. A legit 5'2 (157 cm) doesn't look short.
5'4 to 5'7 are good heights, specially 5'5 to 5'7 in my opinion, but 5'7 doesn't look too feminine.
Poster said on 15/Feb/23
I think 5'2 may be the start of short for white American women in their twenties. It's hard to say. The averages may be 5'4 in some regions and 5'5 in other regions. There may even be higher averages and lower averages in a few rare places.

I'd expect 6 foot at least if you havent stopped growing. I was around 5'8.5 at your age, now bang on 5'11. But you should ask your doctor if you really want to know it and get an accurate estimate.
