Well, both Bale and Cage are from countries where the average height even for young guys is 5'10 max - might be a smidgen under than that. And they honestly don't look THAT tall on screen lol. I mean, have you seen Bale next to 6'4" Liam Neeson in Batman Begins? He looks like a leprechaun in comparison. It's also rumored that Cage uses thick footwear occasionally to make him look taller than he is.
And, globally speaking, you're a very tall guy, Adrian. People from Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Northern Germany, and some Balkan countries are just extremely tall. The times I've been to London and some US cities, I was always surprised to see how much taller I suddenly was compared to the rest haha.

I didn't say they look THAT tall, which is not what I think either. I just can't imagine them being shorter than me, that's all. I'm pretty sure they are a fraction of an inch taller than what they are listed on here, especially Cage.

I'm big into weightlifting. I don't compete or do it for a living lol but it's still a lifestyle. Those guys it's mix of doing it so much plus steriods. I currently haven't lost any height yet. Certain free weight exercises will put more on the spine like squats, deadlifts, rows. I squat but stopped doing deadlifts. Yes after a workout you can hit a low faster. On days i go to work then gym. By 6-7pm I'm definitely at extreme low and i feel it til i lay down again.

6ft 3/4 might be a fair listing, or a claim of 'almost/about' 6ft 1 as a small round-up.

This is going to sound random but I disagree with the assumption that weight lifting automatically causes early or greater height loss. It is only true if you are lifting recklessly (which to be fair, most people do). If you look at Arnold and Ronnie Coleman’s weight lifting videos there is no wonder they have lost so much height, Arnold was pretty much barbell rowing with his spine. But guys like Dorian Yates is in his 60’s and does not appear to have lost any height despite lifting weights his entire life. If anything, lifting with good form and not ego lifting should prevent height loss. However, I am in no position to criticise Ronnie and Arnold.
I don't know man...certain lifts like heavy squats and deadlifts do put a lot of pressure on your spine, and it is not uncommon to hit an extreme low after a few sets. Of course you recover, but it's hard to believe that type of strain wont affect your height in the long run.

Yes, I forgot about that term. Usually here when we meet someone who is not necessarily tall, but above average, we say "he is kind of tall", because hardly anyone would say "he is above average in height", at least in an informal conversation.
Tall and kinda tall are subjective concepts in general, although when we have information about average height it is possible to create a more objective argument about it.

I remembered that in January I saw a 6'1-6'2 girl when I went to the football stadium, easily outgrowing most guys, but in general very rare, easier for me to find 6'6-6'7 guys.

@ 184cm guy
It's highly dependent on your growth rate and genetics but there's a strong possibility of more height. Especially if you are JUST turning 16.
I'm a weak 188 and there's a good chance you will edge me out by the time you are 18-21. A chance you could even peak somewhere 190-192.
It's also possible you will remain at 186 but this is less likely in my opinion. It's also possible you could hit a crazy peak and end up 195-200, but this is the least likely outcome.
If I was forced to bet money on a number, I would say you would probably peak at around 189, I'll say 189.5 to be exact, a solid 6'2 1/2 which is a great height.

The guy in the middle is measured at 174cm? Doesn’t look like 174. From the photo, his top of the head looked aligned with the tallest guy’s chin which makes it look like he is 5’6. The middle guy was probably measured with shoes with pretty big lifts that makes him 174cm. I would say maybe the angle does make it hard to read the alignments but if I was to guess from this photo, I would say maybe the middle guy is 5’6, 5’6.75 for the fourth guy, 5’7.5 for the fifth guy and around 5’10 for the second guy since his top of the head is at the 6’3 guys eye level which is around 5 inches difference.

I don't remember women +6ft1 in the last few months.

The 6ft2 woman debate is hot right now. In England it's on the rare side I believe. I'm 173cm and I'm a good chunk taller than most women. 5ft9 an 10 women I see on a daily basis. Sometimes 5ft11 and 6ft. I'm also taller than a decent portion of men in England. Most lie or simply don't know their heights. I also believe the statistics on height are either self reported or measured closer to a morning height. For example if England's average for all ages is 175cm I think it will be closer to 174cm at night. So for men the average height range will be 171cm -182cm. Anything above or below that is starting to get tall or short. Just my observations.

@adrianjacobs I don't know why you jump to conclusions like that. I don't really like when people take me for being a stupid guy who can't differentiate between things.
Yes,i know the difference between prportions and actual height and i have been long enough interested in height to know the differences.
A 5'7 will typically have noticeably different proportions than a 5'9 and especially a 6'1 guy. Just look at Messi and Van Damme, Eric Bana and Willis, Zlatan and Lukaku and other examples.
But yeah, being good at seeing proportions still help though.
No, my first impression in that picture you have was around 182-183 cm. But if you are 6'1, you are 6'1. What you are matters more in this context.
Even people who don't know heights, can see people who are 190 cm+. in my opinion, you don't need to understand height to manage to see that. Most people don't think a 185 cm looks like a 190 cm for example.
@Poster Ahh, i see. Interesting that you never see women shorter than 5'2 in that part of town, because i remember once you're argument with Jdubbz that visually, 5'1 women look very short to you and to a lot of people. Has that part of town influenced you're view on that or do you just see it more from an objective perspective? Seeing 6'0 women here is relatively uncommon, but not rare until 6'1-6'2 range in my experience.
@Mariana I am from Scandinavia but i don't want to say more, if you don't mind. Nice name, i knew a girl from one of my Mexican friends with the same name.
I personally don't really like to generalize, people are different. Yes, the personalities of people to a certain degree can get impacted by how tall they are.
Some people can develop confidence and some people can develop insecurities too.
But from my personal experience, 5'4 is amongst the best heights of women, most women i have met in these heights can often seem more engaged in things, kind of energetic and passionate.
I think 5'4 women look more similar to 5'5 women than 5'3, proportion wise. Both 5'4 and 5'5 heights look around average and have a similar "look" to them too. While in my opinion, i think 5'2 and 5'3 women tend to look more similar proportion wise, in my experience.
For example, i also think proportion wise, 5'6 women tend to look more similar to 5'7 women, while 5'8 women more similar to 5'9 women and 5'10 women more similar to 5'11 women. There is an inch of a difference in either direction up or down, but from my experience, i feel it tends to be like this.

I work as a security guard in the Rosengård area in Malmö, I think the average is probably lower there due to a lot immigrants and children of immigrants living there. But I don’t live there myself because it would be dangerous if I arrested someone and then their buddies find out where I live.

Jawilder - No, I very much disagree (but respect adrianjacobs opinions). I haven’t seen a 6’2” woman in over a year. Last time was summer 2021. At least that’s the last time I remember seeing a woman that tall because she was about the same height as my foster father who was 6’2.75” before his death.

@ 5ft7 and a fraction - Indeed I am interested! We have a large, bold red fox who’s always visiting in the back garden and he often brings his smaller mate with him. I have to feed them or they open up the rubbish bags, but I do enjoy it. The big fox gets really close to me, and one day, I’d like to stroke him.

It could actually be the 99.5 percentile for the whole country. I live in a tall part of the country though. If it's 99.5% for the whole country, it could be maybe 96th percentile in the part of Stockholm where I live, which would make 1 out of 25 women 6'2.

@Darksol64: That's really wild! It's like your experience goes against what people think of as common knowledge and conventional wisdom when it comes to height. "Older people are always shorter than younger people." "Very tall women are much rarer than very tall men." It might be time to rethink things. For example, I think that 5'5" is the real average height now, not 5'4". It might be 5'7" in some countries. That's taller than male averages in some countries!
@Okidoki: It's not unheard of the see 5'9 or 5'10 women at some stores in the "tall town". It's rather rare to see women over 6'0, but it can happen from time to time. A 6'0 woman in the "tall town" might be the equivalent of a 5'9 woman in the "short town". You also almost never see women shorter than 5'2 in the taller section of town (a better phrase, really).
Mariana said on 23/Mar/23
@Okidoki Yes, I have mexican heritage. And what about your nationality?
The closest people around me call me a stadiometer because they know I guess their heights and the heights of other people, absolutely exactly 💯. I guess based on the height difference they have with me, they have with other people and based on their body proportions of course.
What do you think in particular about a solid 5'4 women? How do they look to you? How can you describe them for example what is the difference in their proportions or in aesthetic of them comparing them for example with their neighbors 5'3 and 5'5?
It's interesting to hear from a male perspective, who analyse good human height.
And too what do you have noticed that the majority of solid 5'4 women have (personality trait)?
And yeah as for your question I noticed that phenomenon too that the phrase "Tall queen" and "Short king" is a really common thing to hear nowadays.

Maybe some day i will record video walking around people or photos to compared them.
Idk, but you would feel any difference over 3cms! No saying about ~5cms - it's when even body proportions is different to yours! General avg seems like 173-178, but for a young crowd is 175-180cms max.
Only in my basketball team i know and have guys taller than me, like 6'3"/ 6'5"/ 6'7" ...in reality it's not regulary or normal anyway

Yup, there we have it. You estimate height based on proportions and not how tall they are, that's why you're not estimating correctly. You are not aware of the fact that people have different proportions at the same height.
You saw the photos of me in a crowd, didn't you? You did see the video where I measured myself also, because you commented on it. You would have called me 5'10 or 5'11 because of my proportions. Why don't you think it's the same with everyone else?

I have the same thing going on in our little town (population maybe 20,000) I feel like a half-giant as a weak 6'2 guy wearing 2 inch running shoes. I'll be looking above the heads of most guys I come across. Stats say 1 in 16 guys or so should be taller but I swear it's closer to 1 in 100 here, often times I can go to a busy store and be the tallest guy out of 200.
There's other abnormalities too; I see 5'8-5'10 females much more often than I do 6'2+ guys. The Taller guys that I do see are almost always older, over 55. Most the guys I see in their 20s are typically 5'6-5'9 range, with even 5'10 being relatively uncommon.
Then on the flip side I go to a "taller" area, I can start feeling barely above average height not standing out whatsoever. And it's not just dumb luck, it happens consistently.
Okidoki said on 23/Mar/23
@Poster I like the way you call it, the short town and the tall town :P
I understand, interesting. Maybe the white people between the short and the tall part have different origins, for example the short have more of the British,French etc, while the tall have more of the Germans etc? What's the tallest women you usually encounter in the tall part?
Here in Scandinavia for example, if most of the people in that region are ethnic Nordic people, atleast according to the stats, the biggest discrepancy in height is around an inch. I don't know why, people's genes have been mixed throughout time in different countries, maybe that's an explanation. Because both are ethnically the same race. I don't think atleast in this case, it's because of the living conditions.

@Mariana, Ah,ok. Yes, you're height is very good. like you said, the health is the most important ofcourse.
As for women, people have different tastes, it depends on other things than height too. In my opinion, i think because of the more liberal philosophies of most western countries now where femininity and Masculinity is much less traditional then before, as a result, tall women have become even more popular in my opinion. It's also much more accepted than before now too that a guy or the boyfriend is shorter than the girlfriend, in my experience. They more commonly use expressions like "tall queen" or "short king" in the media too now, if you have noticed.
They call you miss stadiometer? :P You're name sounds Mexican, are you Mexican perhaps? You speak a bit Swedish i see, hehe. I am from Scandinavia and we understand each other, Swedes, Danes and Norwegians, you know.
@Adrianjacobs I respect you're opinion. Yes, 6'2 in some periods, i can see almost everyday, but usually, it's upto a week or month if i don't walk that much around the centrum. But 6'3 no, not in my experience.
6'4+ is definitely extremely rare in my experience too.
You can try to hold the tape measure and look at it and then turn you're head to look at the mirror to see if you are around 185 cm, you will be within 1 cm if you do this.

Just today, I was standing in a queue in the cafeteria and two women in front of me were about the same height as me. They didn't have typical "very long" proportions, which you obviously assume 6'1 women have.
Mariana said on 21/Mar/23
@Okidoki I am 5'4, which is considered short in Scandinavia and in Netherlands. As some other cases in girls, I was tall as a kid, even taller than my boy classmates, but then I stopped very early growing in my pre-teens. While the majority of girls grow until 14-16, and some even until 18 or 19, my growth stopped way before 15, as soon as I entered the puberty phase, but maybe that was my maximum genetic potential and I reached that immediately after 10 years of age, because I have the same height as my aunt. My parents are both taller than me. My mom is an inch taller, while my father 6'1, so me height based on my parents combination should have been 5'7, but I didn't inherit my parents genes for height. But I don't care 'cause I'm so happy and grateful for my health first and then my beautifully build physique, proportional figure and straight posture and not forgetting the ideal weight, my bmi is 21.7, exactly in the middle. I too hate lying about my height because height is a piece of meat, extra meat which you don't have and shouldn't lie for what you don't have, so I truly and completely accept myself for what I am, authentically and unapologetically me. Maybe you will be surprised that I am able to judge from 5'4 such tall height of Tall women. But my eyes are like stadiometer. Even people around me call me like that 😃 But yes I can judge tall women height be it 5'9, 5'10, 6'0, 6'1,6'2 or 6'3. And as for another question that you asked my opinion besides of how tall I am, the second question was What is my Opinion for the view of tall women in the latest decade. My opinion is that they are becoming quite popular, mostly thanks to Victoria Secret models, the fame of Scandinavian beautiful women all over the world and too the famous average national height of Dutch and Latvian women and also the leg fantasy thing. As for my height I am proud with it because is the average height of some of the greatest countries in the world like 🇺🇸 🇬🇧🇦🇺🇰🇷🇪🇸 etc. So I feel extremely feminine with my height. And frankly speaking 🔊 the normal and the perfect height for women if I think 🤔 deeply and seriously about it now I would honestly say that is 162-170 cm because they look quite medium and have mostly 38,39 shoe size and too look good in flats and in heels too. So for me Tall women are not Trendy, but I said my opinion for what I'm seeing in other people's ideas of what is trendy. Because women look better if not tall. But not short also. 5'2 women are extremely obsessive about their height and believe it or not they wear high heels even in the fifth month of pregnancy. It's really HORRIBLE. Some men may like very short 150-156 cm 4'11-5'1 women, or some short 157-161cm 5'2-5'3, while others tall 171 cm 5'7 1/2 or taller or very tall 182+ 6'0 women. But the true is Lagom är bäst. So 162-170 cm women rule the averages of the greatest countries in the 🌎

I’m doing something I’ve only done twice voluntarily: watching Dickinson’s Real Deal, with David Dickinson. He’s talking with a feisty blonde 4ft11” lady and she’s no pushover. Seeing the two together made me wonder how tall David is, and I found 5ft9. However, as he’s 81 now, he will be less.
Some people get really infuriating offers and refuse, and rightly so. There are buyers on the show who try to give measly offers to children, who are too polite to say no. The last time I saw this show, a little boy had something to sell and he got peanuts. I was outraged. Then today, a little girl had a beautiful collection of Beatrix Potter figurines and was given only £300. Aged about 7, she wanted to buy equipment for her school playground. I’d have paid that for them a few years back before I had a host of cats to feed. They were gorgeous and worth far more imo.
I can’t see myself becoming a fan of this show. I used to watch it with my Dad and my boyfriend, but never took in how mean the offers were. It’s not so much David as the antique collectors, and they get the thumbs down 👎 from me. 👅
Even so, Rob, do you think David Dickinson could have a page? This is an old showing, and I’d say that David could have been 5ft8.5 or thereabouts those days.
Thanks Rob! 😄👍🏼

I could imagine that I am dead on average in a country like Sweden. A tad above in some regions and a tad below in some regions.

Should you maybe not stand completely straight when you measure yourself? Should you stand in a fairly relaxed posture while leaning down a bit? I honestly don't know what I could be doing wrong. I've tried different walls and floors, different measuring tapes and short hair. Is there anything else than could make me overmeasure myself?
There's nothing wrong with my perception of height either, and yet virtually every single guy passing me on the street is taller than me. @adrianjacobs I think you're overstating the height of the women you see daily or maybe you're seeing 5'10 or maybe 🤔 5'11 women (even 5'11 starts to get rare for women) maybe they have long legs short torso or maybe use lifts, athletes with hidden heal, because even in Netherlands, that's the tallest nation 180+ women can join the Tall Female Association. I don't know what you're talking about. 5'9 and 5'10 I say too that are quite common and nothing special. But 6'0, 6'1 and 6'2 are surely special and extraordinary. Because I've seen them in very rare occasions during my entire life. And I'm a very good height judge since I was a teenager.

Either I'm somehow measuring myself completely wrong, or the people here are completely full of it. Even the non-swedish people who don't have a fetish for downplaying height.
Mariana said on 19/Mar/23
@Okidoki In my honest opinion from what I've observed over the years of my life, I can assure you that I've seen more 5'9 and 5'10 females than 6'2, 6'3 and 6'4 males, because humans can more easily reach the heights that start with 7 number in metric system 170+, than 180+. While 6'0 females I can count with my fingers, that means it surely it doesn't surpass 10 times I've encountered them in my real life. I saw that you consider only 6'1 and 6'2 in the exceptional tall range for women, actually I know so much about Scandinavia in general, maybe you have right but too don't forget that even in Scandinavia 6'0 females still are considered Amazonian, it's the start of Amazon Women or in other words the real deal, the real tall, when women reach the height in which height men are considered tall also. I have had a really tall Scandinavian teacher when I was a little kid, when I lived in Scandinavia, she was around 6'0 or 6'1, I can't remember correctly because I was as I said a little girl and since then I can't consider 5'9 or 5'10 women really tall, because since a fragile age I've seen 6foot Scandinavian Amazons. And simply because you can see 5'9 and 5'10 like always. While 6'0 is still a rarity among women.
Mariana said on 19/Mar/23
@Henrik It doesn't need to be the full 6'0 or 183 cm to be included in the exceptional tall female height category. In my opinion the full 182cm which is around 6'0, looks too quite strong tall. It's 182 cm that starts that exceptionally tall range for women, while going exactly 8 inches under that or 20 cm, it's 162 cm that starts the normal height for women. It doesn't always need to be the full 6'0 or the full 5'4 or whatever. The important thing is being no further from that height no more than 7 or 8 millimetres.
John marks said on 19/Mar/23

An interesting moment today (Sunday morning as I type) in which I wandered through the mall and about 6 men walked by all substantially shorter than myself, 5ft 5 down to a gentleman who was about 4ft 6.

@Henrik I know that, and also 6'0 woman is equivalent to 6'5 man and not 6'6, but anyway you made a mistake for only an inch in this case. The point of what I wanted to say is that 5'9 and 5'10 woman height is nothing extraordinary as it is seen everyday in Europe, especially in Scandinavia, Netherlands, Latvia, Dinaric Alps, and in Germany as it is very populated and has many emigrants from abovementioned countries. while at 6'0 is special and they look like amazon and magnifique. 6'0 Women make all other women look short in comparison, including 5'9 and 5'10 considering they consider themselves really tall, forgetting 6'0 legends that are above them (I am not a 6'0 personally, so I'm not biased). In Europe anything from 5'3 to 5'10/1/2 is common, so 5'8-5'10 range they of course are rarer than for example 5'5 women, but they are also common as I mentioned you can see them everyday. 5'11 is like bordering height between common tall and really tall in abovementioned European countries. 6'0 is the real deal and significant height, because women at that height look spectacular if they are pretty and have beautiful figure and healthy weight, and men start looking solid tall. So in my opinion 6'0 is the real tall stature for both men and women.

181-182 cm as the average height for Danish men sounds plausible. I think it's the same throughout all Scandinavian countries tbh
Emil said on 18/Mar/23

6 foot is very tall even for Scandinavian and Dutch women. It's more or less the equivalent of a 6'5-6'6 man - not something you'll see every day or weeks even unless you live in a big city.
5'9-5'10 are tall heights as well - equivalent of 6'2-6'3" for a man.
But I do agree that 5'9-5'10 isn't rare or extremely tall for women these days. But it's still tall

People, including women also like being tall because it is seen as special, but in my opinion for example 5'9 women, that we see them in our everyday's life activities, many of them act like 5'9 is like 6'1, when actually exist plenty 5'9 women out there, so it's not nothing special at all, there are even many 5'10 women too. Only at 5'11 it starts to get reduced the number of women. Nowadays I think women should be around 6'0 or 182 cm at least to consider themselves genuine tall and special, because 5'8-5'10.5 range is nothing special at all in this third decade of 21st century. In all seriousness they seem like common heights. In my honest opinion women are only truly tall when they reach the height of that men are considered tall which is around 6'0 mark. What do you all think regarding this topic?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
@Mariana
I understand your logic, but I disagree to some extent. I previously dated a woman that was 5'10.5/5'10.75 and trust me her height was special. She looked very noticeably tall compared to other women and even a substantial amount of men. (Granted her slim figure may have given the illusion of being closer to 6'0.)
I have seen women of similar stature here in the UK, but she had a rare height for sure.
Broadly speaking in Europe I would say 179cm is the starting point of a special/rare height for a woman.
So I wouldn't be inclined to put 5'10.5 in the same category as 5'8, because the latter is not uncommon, despite still being a great height in my opinion.

Okay, 5'11.5 excluding the financial districts, but if you take them into account as well (I don't really understand why you shouldn't?), the average should be about 6ft, no?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
@adrianjacobs
Including the financial districts I think the average for young Swedes in Stockholm could collectively be as high as 182cm or 5'11 2/3. Which is close enough to 6'0.
As I previously mentioned - the financial district businessmen are a minority subset, and don't increase the collective average by as much as half and inch. But I can certainly say this particular locality did appear from my perspective to average 184cm at around 4pm.

A 5ft 9 woman is equivalent to a 6ft 2 guy, and a 5ft 10 woman equivalent to 6ft 3-4. A 6ft woman is more like a 6ft 6 guy.

Hmm, it seems that my previous figure of 183cm (6ft) for the Danish conscripts may have been erroneous. I asked ChatGPT again in another conversation and it now said that the study for the Danish conscripts stated 181.4cm (5ft 11.5, and that Danish males in general were 180.4cm (5ft 11).
The first study from 2016, covering men born between 1940-1990, stated that the general male population of Denmark averaged 5ft 11, and it did seem to state that Danish men born between 1986-1991 averaged 182,2cm (5ft 11.75).
Lesson learned, I guess: don't trust generative AI blindly.

I notice some strange claims about average height in Sweden. I am 180 cm and comfortably average or even above average in one of the largest cities in Sweden. More or less half of all men are under that height. 180 cm is taller than most people think due to widespread height frauding.
This is a lot more believable to me than what AdrianJacobs is saying, but based on stats, the overall average is probably a bit higher than 180cm and closer to 182cm. Still, it's hard to know what to believe when there are so many different perspectives of what the average Swedish height is. I'm thinking it's 5'11-6'0 overall and 6'0-6'0.5 for 18 - 40 year old ethnic Swedish, but I've never actually been to/lived in Sweden before, so of course I could be wrong.

According to ChatGPT, there was a study published by Acta Paediatrica which found the average height of Swedish 17-year olds to be 182.4cm (5ft 11.8) in 2010. If we take into account that boys can still grow some after 17, we may actually get an average of a solid 6ft. I cannot find the citing or survey online.
However, every other study I have seen on Swedes and Scandinavians has suggested the figures of 5ft 11 to 5ft 11.5. It may be that the Acta Paediatrica, headed by Karolinska Institutet, study represented the younger population of Stockholm, and it is in fact somewhat taller.

Maybe you can understand why I don't think 6'4 is super tall in Sweden, if you were insecure at 6'3 in America, which is the equivalent of a 6'5 guy being insecure about being too short in Sweden.
Yeah I can certainly understand why you'd think that. Most of the people here who are hyping 6'4 up to be some giant super rare height everywhere in the world are nowhere near 6'4, so I can't really blame them for being so shocked by what you're saying. It's obviously a very tall height in MOST of the world, but not in countries with an average height very close to 6 foot/183.
6'4 in your country is probably the equivalent of 6'1-2/187cm in the US, at least in cities like Stockholm. Now I'm not saying 6'1-2 isn't tall, but it is literally my eye level or a tiny bit under. I haven't been 6'1-2 since I was 15, but all I know is that if I shrunk 4.5-5 inches to reach my current eye level height, I'd feel a hell of a lot shorter than I do now. For every guy I see who is my height or taller, I see at least 50x as many 6'1-2/187cm guys, if not closer to 100x. It's not a small difference.
6'4 in the US is a different story, but it's not some super towering height like some people think. I was 6'4 for several years, and I felt tall to very tall depending on my environment. I didn't start to feel solidly very tall in the US until I got closer to 6'5 (around 194-195cm to be precise), so that would be the equivalent of 6'7/201cm in your country. 193 to 201cm is a big jump in terms of perception and especially in terms of rarity.

Okidoki said on 13/Mar/23
@Adrianjacobs Yes. Well, most of the time, most people walk around the park, walk through the streets, nature and around the city or through the centre of the city.
In my experience, around 5'11 for the average seems about right for the age group between 20-40. The only thing which is not easy to decide on personally, is if one sees more often 5'11-6'0 guys or 5'10-5'11 guys.
In these occasions,i see as often men between 5'9-5'11 as men between 6'0-6'2 for example.
And these occasions are much more often than when visiting pubs, bars or shopping malls, more crowded places.
In places like pubs, honestly, i do more often encounter 6'0-6'1 guys than say 5'9-5'10 guys for example. From my experience, i do more often see guys taller than 5'11 in these settings for some reason.
So i can understand you're viewpoint, when saying you think the average is much higher than cited.
When we look at the averages where it's stated that people measure them more objectively, like not being self reported, measuring without shoes and using national surveys, then we can see that the averages are reported to be between 5'11-5'11.75. Even when accounting for the tallest cities and tallest regions, the average there doesn't excede 182-183 cm. It's also stated in these that they measure ethnic nordic people too.
For people in Stockholm to be that much taller than people in Copenhagen, the only arguments made could be that they exercise much more, have significantly better living conditions, eat food with more hormones as some people argue that the youth of today are taller because of that. These are only theories ofcourse. All these things are unlikely to have that much of an effect and these 2 countries are probably similar in all these aspects too.
Because these 2 people have also similar origins and genes, so it makes sense that they are close in height.

I don't live in Sweden, but I strongly doubt it's as tall as you're making it out to be.
You are either trolling or are you delusional, so which is it? As Big Ben said, who the f**k cares what the average height is? It could be 6'5 in Sweden.
You seem to have a perception problem if you only notice the people taller than you are.
@Jdubbz
They are getting on his case for a good reason. He's irritating. He's not as annoying as C-Mo was, but his constant whining about the average height of over 6ft in Sweden is getting old. No man or woman is made equal so some people will be taller than he is. I might as well start b******g that I didn't make it to six feet tall, but complaining about it is not going to change anything. He needs to be happy with the height he is and damn what the average height is.
adrianjacobs said on 13/Mar/23
@Jdubbz
Maybe you can understand why I don't think 6'4 is super tall in Sweden, if you were insecure at 6'3 in America, which is the equivalent of a 6'5 guy being insecure about being too short in Sweden.
adrianjacobs said on 13/Mar/23
@Jdubbz
I don't even know exactly how tall I am. I'm 99.99999% sure that Rob would list me at anywhere near 6'1 if I were a celebrity (and if he didn't see my measurement). I uploaded the video of me measuring myself to ask anyone here if they could see what I was doing wrong.
As I told @Cbrady a couple of weeks ago, I think I measured my eye level incorrectly and it probably is right around 5 inches below my height (and not even lower like I used to say). My evening height seems to be about 6'0.75 (that video was 2-3 hours out of bed) and my eye-level about 172 and some change. A solid 6ft person should have an eye level of about 171cm, which means I supposedly do have a higher eye level than those 6ft guys, and yet I can't imagine them being shorter than me at all.
I should look taller than I am too btw, because I'm pretty skinny, and yet I look short af.
One thing I noticed, is that on the very rare occasions when guys only reach up to my eye level, they look like complete meatballs and yet when I see actors in movies who are listed at 5'7-5'8, they have "normal-looking" limbs and don't look like goblins.
(Billythetreesurgeon) said on 13/Mar/23
Mariana@ there isn’t a massive difference between 5ft 2 and 5ft 4… in general being short as a woman isn’t seen as a negative trait like it is for men, although you can see many woman are height aware, just like men are
Rockaway said on 13/Mar/23
Weak 6ft = regularly dips to 5’11.75” at a normal bedtime low
Solid 6t = only dips below 6’ on extreme lows and even then barely
Strong 6ft = never dips below 6’ even at an extreme low
Henrik said on 13/Mar/23
@adrianjacobs
In this case, I was commenting on your saying that virtually no Swede was under 6ft. That doesn't make sense even if we take for the sake of the argument that the Swedish average is 6ft, because half of the population is below the average. It would have to be way higher than that if there were virtually no Swedes below 6ft.
Emil said on 13/Mar/23

Yes, exactly. Although, in Scandinavia and the Netherlands we're only about average height regardless of posture, but eh, we still are taller than probably 90% of all grown men on the entire planet, so nothing to complain about really 😉

@adrianjacobs:
I know people here are getting on your case, but at the end of the day you know exactly how tall you are. You're one of the few people here who has actually proved his height, and your measurement looked perfectly fine to me. You may be eye to eye with legit 6'0 people since you have a relatively low eye level, but that doesn't mean you aren't taller than them.
While I don't necessarily agree with your perspective on the average Swedish height, people accusing you of trolling are taking it too far. For what it's worth, in the other photos you uploaded (especially the last one), you don't look like a below average guy to me.
Jdubbz said on 12/Mar/23
@Emil:
Thank you as well, Emil. Yeah, even though I stopped measuring myself so often after that year, I still felt a little insecure about my height until I hit 6'4-5 or 194-195cm. I guess at 6'3 I was tall but still saw a decent number of guys taller than me. That decreased a lot at 194-195cm and basically never happens now at my current height.
I'm glad you grew out of it as well, but considering where you and AdrianJacobs live, I cannot blame you at all for being insecure about being "only" 6'0 or even considering surgery for it. I felt insecure about being 6'3, and I live in a country that is approx 2" shorter than yours.

Luckily after ~6'5 my legs didn't grow at all and the extra inch and change has been in my upper body. An extra inch or inch and a half in my legs would make legroom a whole lot tighter. What car do you drive?

@Alex: I think even dipping under if it’s your extreme low, you’re a strong 6’0” at worst a legit/solid. You probably don’t go under it at a low. My confusion is the definitions Rob uses as strong to him is someone who doesn’t dip under which is a good way to put it but it could be someone who doesn’t dip under the mark.
I've always seen "strong" as not dipping under the mark even under the worst case scenario (extreme low) and being 1/4" - 3/8" above at a normal low. For example, you and I are strong 6'4 and 6'6, respectively. Your extreme low would be a solid/legit 6'4 guy's normal low, and they may dip to 6'3 7/8 or even 6'3 3/4 at their lowest possible height. I think Alex is a legit or solid 6'0 with his stats, or maybe right between solid and strong. I believe he's like Rob in that his regular low is 1/8" over the mark (I could be wrong on that), so it's a bit trickier to categorize his height.

Sorry I just need to get this off my chest but I think there's no doubt that I overestimate how important a factor height is in women and for my own good should stop being angry over the fact that there aren't as many 6'9"+ women on the planet as I think there should be. 😖
Caleb 178.8cm said on 12/Mar/23
The tallest man I know who doesn't have any growth-related pathological condition and is still alive is 7'8.5" Bob Wegner. He's unofficially the tallest man in the United States. The tallest woman alive without any growth-affecting disorder is Zhang Ziyu, who I suspect might be 7'2.5"-7'3". There might be some naturally-tall women over 6'9" in European countries who just haven't been discovered yet... I mean it's certainly possible for a woman to be over 6'9" naturally since there are naturally-tall males over 220cm. Patiently waiting for the day when people finally discover another woman in Europe who's at least 6'9".

@SandyCowell You're so sweet 😊 Thanks a lot! Yeah I think that in one way 5'4 is kind of like the only height you can feel small like a doll, average/medium and tall like a supermodel in high heels too. Like you can feel three categories all at once being 5'4 as a female. But sometimes I'm so curious what would be like to be 6'0 or 6'1, being taller than almost 100% of other women. As human beings we are so curious and wonder what we would look like at completely another height. All the best 🙌

yeah i have seen that video before. I thought it was legit too, but then i remembered the fake measurement video that Rob made when he was measured 5'10 on camera, so i realized that anyone can fake it somehow.

Being addicted to measuring your height can be terrible for your mental health. I remember my second year of college I got into a really bad habit of measuring myself multiple times a day. At the time I really wanted to be taller, as I heard guys could grow after 18. I also really didn't enjoy seeing guys on my campus who were taller than me. It got to the point that I was actually insecure about being "only" 6'3, which I know sounds ridiculous. Somehow, each time I measured myself, I thought the result would change. Of course, after repeated measurements, I'd end up even shorter than when I started, which made the cycle even worse. I'm so glad I grew out of that (pun intended), and these days I measure myself maybe twice a year.

Yes, but based on the average height you're claiming for ethnic Swedish men, that doesn't make sense. The average height would have to be WAY higher than 6'1-2 or even 6'2 for 6'0 to be out of the ordinary, and that's just not possible.

When going to crowded places such as shopping malls, bars etc, it can often seem that the average is 6'1 for men and around 5'8 for women. I suddenly see groups of 6'1-6'2 guys and women of 5'8-5'9 there for example, so the average can at times seem that high.
Just as often though, the average in everyday life, when walking about around everywhere, can seem anywhere between 5'10-6'0 for men and 5'5-5'7 for women.
-
Could you explain to me how the average is 5'11 if the average seems like 6'1-6'2 just as often as it seems like 5'10-6'0? Shouldn't it logically be 6'0.25?

I can't even begin to imagine how some of the actors listed here at around 6ft, like Nicolas Cage and Christian Bale are shorter than me. I'm almost completely sure that they would be at least eye to eye with me if I met them.

Is there any way we could do polls on here, you know like they have on twitter? I think it would be very useful to be able to run polls and see what the average response is and to document it. Or perhaps have a page for polls and each month have a different topic and record what people say. For one, I'd like to see a poll of all users on what their ideal height would be, and what height they start to consider too tall etc.

Editor Rob
I did try a few youtube polls in the past, but never really continued. Might be worth considering again.

Both 5'2 and 5'4 are definitely within the normal height ranges for women. 5'2 is the lower lower end while 5'4 is near solid average, so yeah there is definitely a difference. With that said, I wouldn't say it's a "big" difference; like standing next to each other, there would be a quite noticeable difference, but in day-to-day life it would take a trained eye to see a solid height difference between the two. How people of these two heights experience things though, I'd say there could be a difference, since 5'4 is pretty much around average height while 5'2 is noticeably below average

Measuring yourself every day doesn't seem good for your mental health. Do you agree?

Am I likely a legitimate 5'7"? I measured 5'7" at each doctor's appointment I had at 15 and 16 years old. At that point, the GP told me I was probably finished growing.
I was next measured at 17 where I raised up on the heel slightly and reached 5'7.75". I was measured again at 19 where I made sure not to raise up on my heel, but stretched myself up as far as I could to the point I was twitching, and reached 5'7.5".
When I stand up next to a tape measure barefoot, I look like I'm closer to 5'8". In person, most people guess my height at either 5'8" or "5'7 or 5'8"". A few people have guessed my height at 5'9" in the past.
I live in a young major city and I feel like I'm constantly oscillating between feeling very short and very average throughout the course of a given day.
In addition what would a 5'8" or 5'9" person look like to me in similar footware? One of my sisters claims 5'8" but she's very obviously taller than me, she manages to look my height by wearing flat soled shoes and slouching slightly in pictures. The other sister looks noticeably taller than me barefoot, but I look the same or slightly taller if she's wearing flat shoes and I'm wearing 1.2" running shoes.

@Mariana: Most people would see 5'4 and 5'2 as normal heights for women. 5'2 is short, but it's not *very* short. 5'4 is close to average in most locations in the USA. Those heights have no disadvantages at all in most areas (the Netherlands might be an exception in some ways).

I can see what Adrian means and as i am from Scandinavia, i can explain. But that the people in Copenhagen are around 2 inches shorter than people in Stockholm, sounds unrealistic.¨
Because ethnic Nordic people have similar genes, so they should be close to each other interms of height. Atleast stats wise, they are all close. Young people according to valid sources are between 5'11-5'11.75.
So, when i see people between 20-45 years old let's say for example:
When going to crowded places such as shopping malls, bars etc, it can often seem that the average is 6'1 for men and around 5'8 for women. I suddenly see groups of 6'1-6'2 guys and women of 5'8-5'9 there for example, so the average can at times seem that high.
Just as often though, the average in everyday life, when walking about around everywhere, can seem anywhere between 5'10-6'0 for men and 5'5-5'7 for women.
So yes, in crowded settings, the average can often seem higher, but in everyday life, the average that is mentioned looks about right though. Most people i see use 2-3 cm shoes, some use 2 inch shoes though, particularly in the Winter in my opinion.
