Someone with a Hard low of 6 ft and 3/4 Rob would list on here at 6 ft 1 minimum, possibly even 6 ft 1 and 1/4. He usually splits the difference between morning max and absolute low with his listings, as stated by himself.
If you're instead asking if you should claim to be 6 ft 1 in that scenario....yes. Personally I only claim 6 ft 1 despite waking up 6 ft 2 and 1/2 with a low of 6 ft 1 and 3/4....but I just do that to mess with people who think I'm 6 ft 4 due to all the exaggeration crap going on. :)

You use AI like Gemini?
The other month when I mentioned the tape measure under measurement when my sister measured me (who is 8.5 or so shorter) I was looking like 5'11 instead of 6'0
Typed this situation in Gemini:
"Parallax Error: This is the most common reason for measurement inaccuracies when the observer isn't directly at eye level with the point being measured.
How it works: When the shorter person looks up at the top of your head and the tape measure, their line of sight to the mark on the tape measure isn't perpendicular to the tape itself."
The effect: If they're looking up, their eye level is below the top of your head. To them, the tape mark that aligns with the apparent top of your head (from their lower angle) might actually be lower than your true height. It's like looking at a clock from the side – the hands appear to be pointing to a slightly different time than if you were looking straight on."
Pretty cool breakdown
Maybe you need an AI Rob here answering comments! Lol

Editor Rob
Yes, the AI covered the concept pretty well. It's an issue we've talked about on here over the years.
Some of that effect is also seen in photos where somebody can end up looking a bit shorter (or taller) because of the height of the camera.

Hello Rob, I am 25 years old and I measured myself in April last year, aged 23 at the GP around 3:40 PM and measured at 168.5cm tall, and a couple of years ago at the gym, aged 21 in March 2022, I measured at 168.2cm around 8:30 PM (I am usually up and out of bed around or before 8:00 AM). However, I have never measured myself as an adult either in the morning or around the midday point, only after 3:40 PM. So, how tall would you say I am, and what height should I claim between 169cm and 168cm, as I spend more of the day at 169cm?

Claiming 169cm wouldn't be unfair based on the times you've been measured and the results you have. I would fully expect at mid-day you are going to be 169cm.

Hello Rob,
I am panicking right now because for quite a while I have been living a sedentary lifestyle. Im 22, and I noticed my height shrank almost half an inch when I checked it on the stadiometer. I am very anxious and I don't know how to regain it back. Is there a way to? Also when I measure my height with different objects around my wall (9 inch spray can) I get a much less measurement compared to the stadiometer. Please share your thoughts on this.

Editor Rob
If you face the wall and use a long can, that should be enough to ensure you are hitting the highest point.
It would be strange to lose half an inch at your age from sitting about a lot...though, if you took up a simple stretch routine for a month, that might be worth looking into and seeing if you really did develop a worsening posture which made you measure shorter.

In episode of two of the series, I believe I heard a height that was being referred to his character in the second episode as described as "Latino male, five-ten, give or take". I find this description suspiciously too optimistic. Usually one would say 5 ft 10 as a way to look taller because one doesn't want to say 5 ft 9 or 5 ft 8 in that manner. And strangely he's listed 6 ft on IMDB! Would you say around the 5 ft 7 range is believable for him?

Yea oligarchs don’t seem to care about their own people that much. I don’t know how much tax the rich pay here, probably not a lot. If you have healthcare insurance in America you pay less, that’s just the way it is.

I’m right there with you Rob, haha!
I am not familiar with Colin’s work, but either way male actors of his stature are far too short for Superman. Glad at the very lowest, casting departments have gone with weak 6 footers.
Seems to be the case for other “flying brick” type comic book characters on screen as well! Regee-Jean Page (181.5cm) was considered for Adam Warlock, and Lewis Pullman (182.2cm) is currently The Sentry!

Hi Rob,
I am making a page request for actor Malcolm Jamal Warner. I saw the news today that he unfortunately passed away in a tragic drowning accident in Costa Rica. But since the Cosby Show days, he's built up a consistent career with TV shows Malcolm & Eddie, American Crime Story, and The Resident, which I have watched a few episodes of in the past. He could be 5 ft 11 in or a tad bit more if I were to make an estimate. A very talented actor gone too soon.

Agreed on your Superman consensus!
Funny enough, both Cain and Hoechlin as the shortest Clark Kents are right the beginning of the tallish range (around 182cm), so looks like unintentionally casting departments do silently agree that height range is the lowest you would go for calling someone “tall” and them visually looking as such. Neat!
After doing some research, looks like the shortest actor to have ever been considered/auditioned/screened tested for the role is Colin O'Donoghue (5ft 10in).

Well, oligarchies are sadly always for the money, and for the rich/privileged. The poor suffer from starvation at the back with the crumbs and empty wrappers. In my country, wages are quite generous, and you are entitled to get on the dole if you are homeless or in financial ruin. Also, interest is rubber banded, so richer people must pay a higher sum of taxes (proportionate to how much they have), whereas the poor have plenty of slack cut for them. e.g. free healthcare, less demanding taxes and whatnot.
The UK should be similar, I hope?
The fact that hospitals in America are basically companies, and patients, no matter how sick, injured, dying they are, must pretty much pay-to-stay. It's truly evil if you ask me.
I'm not saying we're perfect. I mean, Australia is still VERY much an "expensive" country. We're having housing crises and overpopulation dilemmas in many places. But if you are employed in even the humblest of jobs, you can live comfortably, at least away from absolute poverty. The generous wages counteract the imbalance. America though? I always hear that they have the same problems as us fiftyfold + even more additional problems that are unique only to them (e.g. healthcare costing money, anyone can own firearms) + absolutely none of the "saving graces" WE have to even the score.
In simpler words, I need to be more grateful in my life here. I have it so well and good compared to 90% of the rest of the planet. Yet, I still moan and whinge about how depressed and miserable I am. I just need to get a life before I waste more months away.
Sorry for getting a bit personal.

Hi Rob,
I guess this will be my last comedian page request for a little while, but I'm requesting for Dave Foley, who's known for his work in Kids in the Hall, Newsradio, A Bug's Life, Blast from the Past, Hot in Cleveland, and Fargo. From the photos I found, I believe the best picture to look at to see the clear height difference is with 5 ft 9.5 in Phil Hartman where they are standing back to back a bit apart from each other and he does seem to be a bit taller than Mike Myers and always looked taller than Joe Rogan by about an inch and a bit taller than Stephen Root who is listed as 5 ft 7.5 in. And I believe there was a tweet where he stated he was 5 ft 8 in, but I can't seem to find it. He could have looked around 5 ft 8 in or 5 ft 7.75 in when he was younger, but given that he's 62 now, since then he's gained some weight and doesn't have the best posture and it's probable he could have lost a bit of height at this point since I don't think he has the best health habits. When I look at photos of him in recent years, he doesn't even seem to look 5 ft 8 in. Would you say now he could have shrunk a bit and he could be just over 5 ft 7 in or 5 ft 7.5 in?

Rob, I'm really into rock music. Sometimes metal, but mostly rock.
There's one entry on the website I couldn't find - the great Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath. Many say he was where heavy metal started, with his mean, heavy riffs, I'd imagine being completely indescribable stuff to hear for the first time back in 1970. Of course, I'm not remotely surprised you have Ozzy listed, but I'm kinda surprised Tony is nowhere to be found on here. I think he absolutely deserves an entry here - he's gotta be famous enough!

It's so intriguing to me how different people have different standards. 25-26, I'm pretty sure is overweight, 24 is safely under, but a still bit close. I'm just over a 22 range, which may have been described as "slim" in the video, but I'm very happy I achieved such a number - considering my BMI was around 17.5 or 18 last year.
Then again, BMI isn't the best system to judge a physique, since it's only weight-to-height. It doesn't account for body composition, so I avoid obsessing over it too much. That being said, I still would like to be 23-24.5 range. That's my personal "optimal" area.
Realistically, closer to 23 is probably healthier, though.

Yeah, I forgot that muscle mass goes a long way. There are some 150-160lb 5'10 guys I see on the internet with very high muscle definition, and they give the illusion of being heavy despite being a relatively lean weight. I'm not sure if this is true, but I feel like in most cases, masses of fat tissue tend to be heavier than masses of muscles. But again, I suppose it depends on composition. And the degree of how much fat/muscle tissue there is.
I've thought about gaining weight until I surpass the 170lb-mark, just to feel comfortably "well-fed", as I have always unintentionally dropped weight far too easily. But now I'm weirdly curious. I look trim at 155lbs, but not necessarily skinny (akin to when I was 140lb-range). I'd say I look "fit" and moderately lean, barring some slightly noticeable "flab" on my stomach and legs.
Though, when I wear jeans and baggy shirts, I look genuinely slim again. Compared to when I wear normal thin-fabric t-shirts in the hotter days, my belly looks mildly bloated. I have no issues with it, because it physically proves to me that I've definitely put on weight. When I was proper skinny, my waist was tiny and borderline devoid of fat.
If I put on another 15-20lbs through mostly eating, I'm very intrigued by how I'll look in the low 170s range. I'm guessing noticeably chubby, but not necessarily "fat". I think it still should be safely below "overweight" at 5'10, even if by not much.

I can back you up on that. Tipping is next to non-existent in Australia, too. I hear rumours about wages in the USA, particularly for services like working in a restaurant, are almost insultingly low. Businesses and companies get to rake in money by the loads, whereas the poor innocent staff are paid cultivated dirt.
The "tipping", I hear, is pretty much the underpaid workers begging for extra money to compensate for the shortage, so they are able to comfortably live through a night without having to skip a meal. If this is true, wow that is depressing.

I came across an interesting video of an Italian guy who claims 206 and shows how tall his entire family is. Supposedly, his mom is 168 and dad 187. His little brother (14 years old) claims to be about the same height as his mother, though they say his twin brother is around 180, while the older brother claims 185. At the end of the video, he asks his parents how tall their parents are and his mother claims his dad is 170ish and mom 164-5 while his father claims his dad is 173-5 (even though they later agree it's more 170) and mother 152! Barring strange affairs 😬, I guess it goes to show how unpredictable height can be!

Ok, I see. In the case for 5'10, I presume anything sub 150lbs is moderately light, sub 140 would be quite light and 150-165lbs would be a wide range that pretty much encapsulates "average" or "medium" for 5'10.
Would you say 170-175lbs is "entry-level" heavy or "light-heavy" at that height?

Rob, could you give Jerry Adler a page? I watched him in Find Me Guilty recently and was surprised to see he doesn't have one. I saw an older discussion of him on here where you guessed he could have been 6ft 2 peak, which seems right to me. He looked about the same as Alan Alda in Manhattan Murder Mystery. On Quantum Leap he easily had 2+ inches on Bakula:
Click Here I think by Sopranos and Raising Dad, he could look 6ft to 6ft 1 range, but at peak he seemed a pretty solid 6ft 2. Even in his mid-70s in Find Me Guilty he was still comfortably taller than Vin Diesel.

Editor Rob
Yeah, for a peak height, 6ft 2 is quite possible. Been in a few good shows during his career, worth a page of course.

I rarely go to restaurants, but from the times I have been, tipping wasn't as common. I suppose if the workers are earning a base wage that is poor or below minimum wage, you rely on the tips to make it a livable wage.

I claim 6'1 because I've stood next to many 6'2 and there is a visible between me and that person.

In regards to the measurement looking less than actuality when shorter person measures a taller a lot taller than them via tape measure,
I took a few mins and ran a test with two objects on a dresser
One aerosol deodorant can
And one plush (to try to mimic human head curvature and slight vertex):
Click Here You can see both objects appear to measure about 0.75-0.8 or so less
At some point I think it tapers off
Like for the one measure 47.5 inches
When I tried to bend down even more so I was 7-9 inches less it was showing 46.5 or so , so basically one inch
So this may be why I looked 5'11 vs almost 6'0 when measured by someone 8-8.5 inches shorter
I guess lesson is don't let shorter people measure I less they stand on stool and can be ideally same height or taller
whats odd is if I sit down and look at two objects next to each other (one shorter and one taller) the shorter object seems less of a difference. When standing up and looking the taller object appears even taller next to the shorter one.
Strange...I guess angles really can play into things similar to your camera angle/perceptions videos you did testing on in the last

Editor Rob
Yeah, this is the kind of issue that happens when your eyes are a foot away from the top of someone's head and the tape measure is even just a couple of inches away from what is the highest point of your head!

Rob I see that you've mentioned you're almost vegan. I remember watching your day in the life video during the lock down days and noticing that your diet was largely plant based. I figured that you ate that way to save money... is health and ethics a factor as well?
I am on a largely plant based diet myself for many years now. Originally it was a health/performance thing for running and cycling, but now I care about the ethical aspect as well. I would say 95% of my diet is plants and the other 5% is eggs from my familys backyard chickens, as well as fish and venison that I caught/hunted myself. I try to avoid dairy as much as possible as well. I only cheat when visiting friends and family because I don't want to inconvenience others to accomodate my diet.
I think a plant based diet, with a small amount of meat and eggs for (certain micronutrients that plants are low in) is optimal for human health. After all that's how our closest frugivore relatives eat.
It's interested how the canivore diet is in vogue these days. What are your thoughts on it?
I personally would not be able to thrive on a diet so high in fat and low in carbs. I do better on high carb, moderate-high protein and low-moderate fat diet. Maybe I'm biased since I do alot of cardio and minimal weight training.

Editor Rob
I remember being put off meat as a youngster trying to chew steak chunks and mince and finding it a horrible taste. I've survived without it for 30+ years.
However, I do still make my Father's dinner every day and he enjoys your cottage pies, steak, fish etc.

@Rob
Thanks Rob
Yes that makes sense seeing top of head is best (aka someone taller ideally who can look down not up) as can properly see where the and use a flat wood or aerosol can to aide like my dad did he got 72 inches but he probably rounded up from 5'11.8 which is my night low
So I agree the consensus is a much shorter person looking up may underestimate the vertex of the scalp which can shave off 0.5 even 1 inch depending.
As head slightly angles up higher towards the vertex
Almost like measuring the hair line is gonna be 1 inch or more less
I guess I can do a test by trying to measure a taller object and see if I understand measure.
Actually I did that before with a door frame and it's 81 inches but can look 80 zone if I don't properly look by elevating myself can shave 0.5-0.75 off
I'll stand on a stool and try it lol
This may partially explain even when measuring on stadiometer a shorter person (like nurse at Dr office) may look up and not see where the bar is actually and think it's lower number
I believe tape measure can be accurate but have to make sure it doesn't bend or angle (which can make one reas shorter if angled too much) and person who is looking is looking for elevated position or at least within 3-4 inches of height so can tippy toe and be close enough to properly see
Has anyone else here had someone much shorter under measure them?
I may ask in general height to see how common this is
Rubbish poster said on 30/Jun/25
I might be close to 5'10.25 range. I'm okay with this for as long as I'm completely and utterly done-zo with my growth. 5'11 would look a bit lanky, I'd think...
Rob, I've made some measurements at more specific times. I'm a bit of a lazy person, and tend to be quite sedentary, so that might be why. But my shrinkage throughout the day seems very minimal. I hold just over 177.8cm well into the late afternoon. Even if I go out for a walk or jog for 15-30 minutes, I still come back holding that mark very strongly. It isn't until post-6pm that I slip down into the 177.2-177.7 area. And so far, reading "177.0cm" honestly seems to be nearer the extreme low range for me.
Or maybe young people have stronger spines, I don't know how it works.
I haven't read my figure starting with "one hundred and seventy-six" in at least a year! I still recall 177.0cm being my absolute high as a 17-year-old.
I'll make a prediction for what my stats might look like starting 2026 (which I SHOULD definitely be proper finished)
So Rob, if a guy was 179.6cm out of bed and 177.5cm evening, could he get away with a flat 5'10 listing, or would you feel like 5'10 and a quarter is a more appropriate figure?

Editor Rob
A 5ft 10 listing would be ok, but I don't discount 10.25 either...if the person had actually said I'm 5ft 10 I'd just go with that, unless I felt they were looking more 10-10.5 range at times.
I suppose it reminds me of a guy like Thomas Jane, ultimately 10.25 probably is a fair figure as although only claimed 5ft 10, sometimes pulls off 10.5.

You're almost vegan nowadays? I see! Hope you're managing your diet okay (it's restrictive).
AI has certainly come a long way since the 90-2000s. Didn't know it wasn't useful for human height comparisons though (the more you know). I somewhat look forward to a time when AI becomes useful for that (assuming it'll actually happen). I've certainly noticed that many websites and blogs shut down, which is definitely a shame. Didn't know it was because of AI though. I thought social media was to blame. I guess both are to blame. I certainly miss pre-social media era internet (pre-2005) and, to some extent, early social media era (mid-late 2000s). I hope this site stays online for years to come (even if it's just wishful thinking)! I mean, I've been using/enjoying this site for about 16 years now!
Lastly, here are 2 DJs. If the taller one is 5ft 9, how tall might the shorter one be (taking into account their similar (same?) footwear, postures, and the camera angles)?

They are both dropping height, it seems between 4-5 inches. Doubt the taller one is as tall as 5ft 9 though.

@Rob
Quick question
does someone that's fairly shorter (let's say 6 inches plus) more prone to under measure the taller person using the tape measure method?
My mom was is 5'1 range measured my sister at 5'3 which sounded wrong so I did it.
When I measured I got the expected 5'3.5-.6
Which correlated with her prior measurements since she stopped growing like 10 yrs ago
It was so easy for me to see this as I'm about 8 or inches taller
Then they measured me but struggled with it since I'm quite taller.
Got 5'10 range lol (had measure tape bended at one point)
But then got closer with 5'11 then 5'11.5
Looking at tape next to me it was clear to see I was taller than 5'11
But they insisted I didn't quite hit 6'0
My dad who's about 5'8 nowadays did it and got the 72 inches (5'11.8-.9 probably) that expected
Definitely more than the 5'11.5 figures
And he even put a flat piece of wood to confirm
This was done later at night so it would be at my low which is typical for me to get 5'11.75- 5'11.8
So I'm thinking it's best to have someone similar height (within a few inches) or ideally same height or quite taller measure or use a stool to get taller, to be most accurate using tape measure method?
Seems like someone shorter probably not seeing top of head (vertex) which is slightly higher than frontal region hence throws off height 0.5-1 inch or so?
Maybe it's waste of time to have much shorter people measure...

Editor Rob
From a shorter person's eye point of view, yeah, I can see how it's possible to underestimate if you are just holding a tape measure. The best position in that scenario is of course to put your own eyes at the top of the head of whomever you are measuring.

I actually try to be more Vegan these days and avoid milk/cheese as much as possible.
AI is useful in situations, unfortunately not for anything like comparing height of people properly at the moment.
I'm sure a time will come in the not so distant future where AI models have the ability to determine true differences in photos or footage (or extremely good guesses), whilst accounting for all the nuances like perspective, footwear, posture etc.
AI is killing a lot of websites and blogs, which is a shame. I don't know how many years this site has left to be honest!

Rob, do you agree that the fact that many girls consider 6' and over as a desirable height for their partner has a lot to do with the transition from 5 to 6? For the same reason, in metric countries like Italy that's generally 180 and over and I don't think that's because the average is an inch lower than in countries like the US...

Would it have been unhealthy for me at that height? I'm not sure, but maybe just about. If not, then when I reached 5' 9" flat by the end of that year, and still weighed exactly 120 pounds, I would most definitely have dipped slightly into the underweight range.

Hey Rob, it's been a while since I last visited this site (my old username is 'Jacky Huynh'). Hope you're doing well.
Out of curiosity, are you a very nostalgic person? As in, do you listen to music from the 80s-early 90s often? What about rewatching TV shows and/or movies from the 80s-early 90s?

Editor Rob
I do tend to go back to a lot of 80's or 90's films, it's what I grew up with so I like that era. TV shows too, but really I watch stuff from 1960's to present day.

Hi Rob,
A few days ago I saw the latest standup special by comedian Mike Birbiglia whose work I've always admired and a big fan of and I would like to request a page for him. He's been successful on Broadway giving his shows and has won several awards. His work includes films like Sleepwalk With Me, Don't Think Twice, The Fault in Our Stars, and A Man Called Otto and TV shows like Orange is The New Black and Billions. I would say he's around 5 ft 8 in flat as his head level appears around the same as Caroline Rhea and appears clearly taller than Chris Gethard and Matthew Broderick, but is like a half inch shorter than Sam Trammell when standing next to him. He is a big sneakers wearer as you can see from the many photos I found. But at times, I've seen that he doesn't necessarily have the best posture and can look 5 ft 7.5 in. What is your opinion on his height?

Rob, my uncle claims he used to be 5’11.5 but at the age of 62 I measured him at barely 5’10 (5’9 7/8). How much can a man realistically lose without injuries by that age? He doesn’t exactly live a healthy lifestyle though, and his shoulders seem quite high up for saying he’s 5’10 as if he doesn’t have a neck if that makes sense. I’m wondering whether he was 5’10.5-5’10.75 and measured 5’11.5 in shoes…

Editor Rob
1.5 inch by 62 is more than you'd expect for a man! However, a percentage will lose that amount. If you saw his upper neck you'd probably be able to tell if it has some curvature to it, which might account for some loss.

I've not really seen any that are longer than 10 inches around here. regarding the aerosol can method :
i think the main problem is that i have is that when i measure myself with the can i have to tilt my head forward so the can touches the highest part of my head . the weird thing is that i have a pretty long aerosol can lol . i think one problem is that i am overweight so my body will be in the way while measuring . but regardless of that when i stand totally straight and put my fingers on my tallest part of the skull i can feel that it is higher than what i measure with the can . i guess i would need a very long aerosol can to measure properly but i dont even know if such long aerosol cans exist lol
i do think i am undermeasuring myself by a couple of millimeters at least . i will look for longer aerosol cans in stores

Editor Rob
How far away your head is from the wall can make a difference. It sounds like in your case it's not quite at the highest point. You can get cans around 9 inches (look for a 500ml can of something like Carpet Mousse) which should really manage to hit the high spot even if your nose is 3 inches from the wall.

Hey Rob, I have a pair of sneakers that claim to add 1.2-1.3 inches of height. Given I'm 5'9.25, it should put me around 5'10.5, however when I measured myself, they only added about 1.0-1.1 inches to my height, putting me a bit closer to 5'10.25. Is it common for shoes to overstate how much height you can gain from them?

Editor Rob
Some shoes/sneakers will compress a bit after being new. It can depend on the thickness of the insole itself. Also some models which have a height attached to it (like via a manufacturer) will have been measured at the highest point of the sole at the back of the heel.

What I’d really like to know is this: if you were in my situation — 184.2 cm tall when measured at 6:10 PM, after waking up almost at noon — what height would you personally claim? I’m not asking for a general rule, but your own take on what you would go with.
Thanks a lot in advance for your time

If I were to suddenly have those stats, I would likely go with 184 myself as a claim or 'almost 6ft 1'. I wouldn't round down to 6ft flat if claiming in feet/inches.

to be honest i have the feeling that by measuring with an aerosol can we undermeasure 2-3mm or so because when you hold the can with hands high up i can imagine that the spine compresses a little bit . i think that when i stand tall and straight without measuring with the aerosol can ...like just standing straight and tall without anything ...with my arms loose / relaxed i am a little bit taller .
does anybody else here have this feeling ?

Editor Rob
I always think the act of holding 2 arms above head helps straighten the back?
In any case, from can to stadiometer, for myself there was no real difference...however, I'm sure a percentage of people could find they mis-measure with an aerosol can.

That comment from Garrett (the probably-Redditor) is making me think a little deeper about my perception of the world, and how drastically the internet alters perceptions. It certainly has for me.
I can speak from personal experience, as I was confirmed to have high-functioning ASD by doctors at the ripe old age of 1. Great news for me.
But history is repeating itself, as I remember being all-obsessed with growing taller at a younger age, feeling like I was so tiny compared to other school students. First time measuring myself at age 14, I came in at 5'6.5. I was sick of feeling dwarfed, so I just sorta learned my unit conversions, and prayed that I would keep growing. At first, I wanted to be 5'11.
But a year later, I changed it, figuring that my childish face would look better on a slightly shorter range, so then I decided. 5'9 plus or minus 1 inch would be my ideal range for my adult stature. I would begin obsessively measuring.
I accidentally discovered CelebHeights whilst in the process of converting my stats on online calculators and height predictors. They always predicted 5'9-5'10 range for me.
Now standing a very solid 5'10 at 19, I'm hoping I don't exceed that sweet, sweet beautiful number 178cm by too much, because now I'm suddenly obsessed with BMI, and how I physically look. I don't want to be tall. I would bemoan my body if I entered the 180s range, because that's just beginning to get proper tall, and I'll slim back up again.
Maybe due to autism, it might be the reason why I enjoy being this very specific height for some reason.
And for reasons I can't explain, I enjoy being "mogged". Vertically, at least.
Now, people on the internet have so many inflated standards around height and looks.
But I ignore all that garbage. Why? That's THEIR opinion.
I just roll with what I have. I set my own standards. My own goals. I try my best to take the free-spirited route.
I won't let the grey opinionated slop of lousy internet people tell me what looks good on me and what doesn't. That's my call.
As Rob once said, "I don't care if you're 5'2. 6'2 or 4'2. It's all good to me. It's what you say and what you do with your life. That's the real measure of a man."

You make a good point
Many celebs are met on pavement/sidewalk terrain and could easily overestimate someone or even underestimate if one is elevated a bit
I just found it weird how at 6'0 flat and in boots one day I felt like average at best
But that photo I sent was the ground I was walking on most the time and then if you factor in elevation, unstable ground seems like a waste to judge height.
Also it's hard to get an idea when walking by as not enough time to size someone up and compare like you can maybe standing in a line inside

What are your thoughts about comparing height when walking like on sidewalks is that something you try not to do?
Im away a few days on a trip in US city (not super crowded but has some areas more tourist like)
Sidewalks look like this mostly:
Click Here I feel like more people taller than usual when walking by I'm thinking it's very sensitive to an slope even if small can make someone shorter or same height feel a few inches taller.
So can sidewalks can skew true difference by a bit due to being uneven and is it even worth bothering to compare in this environment?
Normally my experience with walking on roads and sidewalks has made me feel shorter

Editor Rob
Outside is definitely tricky. Sidewalks can swing heights around a few inches with ease and is probably a reason you can get wild estimates of celebrity heights.

"Yeah my chin will usually be sub 4ft 11. Jenny's height loss is permanent"...
So I guess that makes sense
If you are 5'8.2
And head is 9.5 or so you'd be 4'10.6-.7 for bottom of chin
I guess it's an interesting way to measure
If you know head size can conclude within a 1/4 or so how tall you are
It is difficult to measure head length with tape measure
Think you had a video on how to do it
But I'm very confident my head is 9.5
Minimum
And hopefully stretches can help Jenny
I think it's something some architects suffer from too with bending neck down too much

Editor Rob
It's useful knowing stuff like chin and mouth height for when I was meeting celebrities.
What's not seen though with some photos is if you have a shorter photographer you could be tilting your head down 1/2 to 3/4 inch and on the photo it might appear you are simply looking straight ahead without any tilt...and then if you are looking straight ahead and not tilting your head, it can look in the photo like you are tilting your head up a little!

@Rob,
Seems that my email was not necessary, but did you received it? I know some time ago it was getting blocked by your spam filter.

Editor Rob
I did see it, but never realised it was yourself - I can't actually see any emails people use on here, they just get stored encrypted!

Rob, if the average man in countries such as the US and UK is around 5'9" (175cm), do you think the average man's night time height is closer to 5'8.5" (174cm) given that a lot of the measurements calculated are in the morning or afternoon?

Editor Rob
Probably 1/4 to 1/3rd under 5ft 9 for a 9pm average.

Hey Rob. How much do you think these Saucony Guide 17 wide shoes in size EU 46 add? I have these and they do feel like almost an inch boost roughly.
Editor Rob
Look like a style that gives a decent boost, but yeah it's more like an inch. The ankle sits quite low.

Rob the lady on the left claims 176 cm and the lady on the right claims 168 cm. Is this correct ?

Editor Rob
Their claims don't add up. If she said 163cm, I'd have said sure.

Rob, if someone was 6ft 4 out of bed and 6ft 2.75 at their low versus 6ft 3.5 out of bed and the same low of 6ft 2.75, would you list them at the same or different height? Would it be considered lowballing to claim 6ft 2 in both scenarios?

Editor Rob
6ft 2 is too much of a round down. I would give 6ft 3 or 3.25 for the 6ft 4 out of bed guy.

Rob, what are your thoughts on these social experiment videos where guys are going around in public asking strangers (possibly a good chunk have paid actors) their height and measuring them with a tape measure? How accurate could it be? You might've seen a couple of them

Editor Rob
Holding a tape up can be quite a rough measurement. The taller the interviewer is, the better they'll be able to see the top of head against a tape.
Personally I would never do that kind of stuff, but they always seem to be popular videos.

Early afternoon if my bottom of chin comes up to 5'2.5-5'2.7 (measuring looking straight ahead and standing firm)
This means I'm easily 6'0 then right?
I measured my head it's 9.65 inches at worst 9.5 which similar to yours I think
So 62.6 inches + 9.6 be 72.2
Basically 6'0.25
If you measure bottom of your chin do you get 58.7 inches (4'10.7) zone?
Also last 1.5 years been doing the stretch like this video at about 7 mins and 30 seconds in:
Click Here Maybe this makes me hit true height of solid 6'0 compared to my prior 5'11.8 which I normally was maybe due to bending head down at desk and looking at phone was making true height?
I know you said Jenny is 5'7.5 zone or something from years of working on crafts
Thanks Rob

Editor Rob
Yeah my chin will usually be sub 4ft 11. Jenny's height loss is permanent, though I think it's stabilised for the moment and the exercises we do should help maintain it for a few years.
She has another sister in early 50's who only lost about 1/8th of an inch with a more physical job, but Jenny really spent way too many years bent over a table making crafts.

At about 5ft8 I weigh 179 pounds as of this morning. Do a lot of weightlifting and walking during the week but on the weekends I do drink beer/cocktails with my friends socially
My dad said I could do with losing a bit of fat around the waist

Editor Rob
Good to keep up walking.

@James B 172cm
Huh. I was thinking from a different perspective for myself, hoping that 11.5 stone would appear a bit bulky on 5ft 10, but maybe body fat is more important to consider. I presume that you want to be "skim" in a sort of low-fat, muscly aspect, rather than just slim. For me, I've always been an unattractively skinny person and wanted to get heavier, not through muscle, but just fat because my personal ideal physique is a body that at least doesn't look noticeably rake-y. So, I'm really not fussed with building muscles. If I could magically switch weights with Big Rob, I would feel ecstatic.
But I'm still yet to learn the important lesson that in this grounded reality, I need to work for these things. And I'll be rewarded the more I keep trying it, even if it tires me out all the time. And, this certainly applies to everyone else in the world; the desire to put in effort just varies from person to person. Some will have it come to them easy and naturally. Others will struggle very hard. It really sucks, but such is life I suppose.
James B 172cm said on 4/Jun/25
Rob you ever thought about buying free weights instead of having yo spend money going to the gym?

Editor Rob
I don't go to the gym, but just do some workouts at home with Jenny.
James B 172cm said on 3/Jun/25
Rob can 12 stone look skim on 5ft8 if you workout and have decent muscle?

Editor Rob
With a fair bit of muscle it will look trim. I actually checked my weight again today, I am now sitting at 167 pounds, but still feel I have about 6 lbs round the waist to go until I am at my own optimal weight.
bmb said on 3/Jun/25
Rob, do you still have spare time to watch movies these days?

Editor Rob
I probably am watching more clips from films to check heights, rather than full movies. Though we still try to make room for them each week.

Hey Rob, can you give Tramell Tillman a page? I think you mentioned having seen Severance, so I assume you know who I'm talking about, but now that he has a fairly substantial supporting role in the new Mission: Impossible he's surely worth adding. I haven't seen a direct claim, but he has a stand-in page here listing the height "5'11 - 6'0".
Click Here I think he can look about 5ft 11. He can pass for a bit taller than Stephen Colbert:
Click Here He has a few inches on Esai Morales and is taller than modern-day Christopher Walken, though he still seems about an inch below Turturro. What do you think?

Editor Rob
I only watched season 1, but yeah around 5ft 11 might be a fair listing.

Rob, if you want to add Benito Skinner (given the success of his Overcompensating show on Prime), I found him saying that he likes to claim 6', but that he's probably 5'11 here
Click Here , which I think does look believable. He did look a bit taller than Adam DiMarco on the show, and actually quite a bit taller than Kyle MacLachlan in a couple of scenes!
Click Here Incidentally, I doubt you would add her, but I also found her co-star Wally Baram claiming 5'2 here
Click Here , which I think could be a bit optimistic though.

Editor Rob
Ok I'll add him. Wally is probably closer to 5ft than 5ft 2.
